INTRODUCTION
o The full form of CI engine is compression ignition engine.
o It is used for diesel engine. In this type of engine fuel pump oil inductor are used.
o This type of engine only air is compressed in the cylinder. The CI has a high level of efficiency.
o The CI engine generate more torque at lower rpm.
o The cost of and maintenance for CI engine is higher.
o PARTS OF CI ENGINE -

• Piston
• Connecting rod
• Crankshaft
• Inlate and exhaust valve
• Fuel pump and fuel injector
• Crankcase.
Piston:-

Most important parts of a diesel engine because without those piston pumping your engine does not have energy to get these
moving.

It sales the cylinder and transmit the gas pressure to connecting rod.

Connecting Rod :-

A connecting rod is an engine component the transformation from the piston to crankshaft and function as a lower arm.

Crankshaft ;-

Crankshaft converters force generated by combustion in engine into rotary motion.

Inlet and Exhaust Valve:-

The function of inlet valve is to provide path for desired air flow to combustion chamber.

The function of exhaust valve is to provide to pass burnt gases through the cylinder.

Fuel pump/ fuel injector :-

It transfer the fuel from the fuel tank to device where it is mixed with intake air.

Crankcase :-
It enclosed the lower part of engine and contains the engine oil which lubricated and cools the moving parts.
• Advantages:-

CI engine have higher mechanical efficiency.

Specific fuel consumption is more .

• Disadvantages:-

Produces more noise.

The cost and maintenance is higher.

What is Bio fuel ?

Biofuels are liquid fuels produced from renewable biological sources, including plants and algae. Biofuels offer a
solution to one of the challenges of solar, wind, and other alternative energy sources.

The two most common types of biofuels in use today are ethanol and biodiesel, both of which represent the first
generation of biofuel technology .
MATERIALS & METHOD
MODIFICATION IN THE ENGINE :-
MATERIALS REQUIRED : -
The materials required for biofuel production are: -
a)Diesel
b) Ethanol
The instruments used for the biofuel production are: -
a) Heating Mantle
b) Magnetic stirrer hot plate
Ethanol and it's properties:-
The chemical formula for ethanol CH3CH2OH.
• ethanol is a drinking alcohol.
• Ethanol is used as a fuel and excellent solvent and an important raw material for
making other chemical.
• Pure ethanol is a toxic liquid.
• it is a cornerless .
Properties:-
• At room temperature, Ethanol is always a liquid, and it has a melting point of
156K and a boiling point of 351 K.
• It is one of the most active ingredients of all alcoholic drinks.
• It is also used in making many medicines such as cough syrups, tonics as well
as tincture of iodine as it is a very good solvent.
• Any proportion of ethanol is properly soluble in water.
FILTER & SPECIFICATION

• Engine oil filter :-

• The role of the oil filter is to removing impurities such as carbon residue and Specification-
metal particle from engine oil. Body Diameter94mm
Filtration Accuracy99.9%
• Engine oil filter types :- Our Reference Number85344
Usage Oil filtration
• Oil filter play a crucial roll in maintaining engine health by removing Model Number Lf16075
contaminants from lubricating oil . Capacity300 CFM-Height203mm
Part No FMS 222.04.3.
• They are mainly four types of filter are used :- Country of Origin Made in India

BLENDING PROCEDURE

The quantity of blending preparation is ethanol 10% and diesel 90%.

1. Blending ethanol 10% and diesel 90%.
2. Blending ethanol 10% and diesel 90%.
EXPERIMENTATION

ENGINE SPECIFICATION & PROCEDURE-

• Fuel level and lubricating oil level was checked properly before performing
experiment.
• Than 10cm of prepared biodiesel was taken in an oil column for taking one
observation and load on the diesel engine during the combustion of 10cc was
measured.
• At no load condition the water was not allow to flow through Jack and
Corresponding pressure of air and time measured for with Combustion of 10 cc
of fuel with the help of stopwatch.
• After that the water was allowed to flow through the water jacket and
Corresponding pressure and time for Combustion of 10 сc of fuel was measured.
• Same procedure was repeated by providing different amount of water through
jack and corresponding pressure and time was measured for four more

CALCULATION & RESULT

BRAKE POWER (BP)-

• Brake Power (BP) represents the usable power output of an engine. In Fig brake power variation for
different test fuels is depicted. As engine load increases, brake power rises for all fuels due to
overcoming frictional forces.

2 1.35 1.32 1.34
3 2 1.94 1.99
BRAKE SPECIFIC FUEL CONSUMPTION

Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC) is the ratio of the fuel mass flow rate to the
engine's brake power. In Fig BSFC increases with load for various test fuels. BSFC
values for different fuels at various loads, and Fig visually ranks fuels based on their
BSFC.

BRAKE THERMAL EFFICIENCY
Brake Thermal efficiency (BTE) is the ratio of engine output power to energy supplied by fuel. BTE
initially rises with engine load peaking at certain point before decline.
At low loads extended heat transfer time results in higher heat losses.
