One way to improve descriptive writing is to change the vocabulary
that is being used to more sophisticated wording.

In your teams, using the thesaurus provided, come up with

wonderful, ambitious alternatives for the plain, boring words that
you have been given. Write these alternatives on your post-it notes.

◦ Using your book, note down your top 10 ambitious words that you think you want to try
and remember for future use.

◦ If you do not know what some of the words mean, ask the classmate who found it to
explain it to you.

◦ If you finish, look back at your first description. Could you change any of your adjectives to
these ambitious words? If so, change them (using a different colour).
