ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I am deeply grateful to Principal Mam , Mrs. Paramjeet Kaur and

Mrs. Simmi Mam for their support and encouragement. Their belief
in me and the opportunity to present the geography topic through
PPT have been invaluable .

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF HUMAN

ACTIVITIES

INTRODUCTION

• "Ninety-five percent of our fundamental requirements for sustenance, housing, food ,

and attire are sourced from the land."

• This indicates that land is a vital resource of us .

BRANDING
• We `ll further talk about the human activities which cause land degradation and the
measures to prevent it .

BRIEF ABOUT THE HUMAN
FACTORS
DEFORESTATION
• Killing of trees indiscriminately.
• Trees anchor the soil and in their absence there would be nothing to hold the
soil.
• During rain , soil gets washed away and the fertility of land reduces .

OVER GRAZING
• It is more prevalent in states like Gujarat , Rajasthan , Madhya Pradesh and
Maharashtra .
• Overgrazing typically increases soil erosion. Reduction in soil depth, soil
organic matter and soil fertility impair the land's future natural and
agricultural productivity.
Over Irrigation
• More prevalent in states like Punjab , Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh .
• Over irrigation causes water logging leading to increase in salinity and alkalinity in the soil .

Minerals Processing
Industries
• The mineral processing like grinding of limestone for cement industry and calcite and soapstone for
ceramic industry generate huge quantity of dust in the atmosphere.
• It retards the process of infiltration of water into the soil after it settles down on the land .

Mining And
Quarrying
• Mining sites are abandoned after excavation work is complete
leaving deep scars and traces of over-burdening.
CONSERVATION MEASURES

• Control on mining activities.

• Planting of shelter belt of plants .
• Afforestation and proper management of grazing land.
• Proper discharge and disposal of industrial effluents and wastes
after treatment
• Control on over grazing,
