Main things or basic attitude,style,etc.

•The origins of essentialism is from idealism


and realism.
Essentialists Beliefs
1. Culture heritage is seen as important by essentialist
2. The students should be taught to be a model citizen
• needed for citizenship we want good citizens and in a cultural setting
3. The teachers should teach traditional moral values
and virtues
• Essentialism Movement that stressed the important of teachers
authority inside the classroom
• It argues that the classroom should be teacher-oriented
4. Essentialists believe in mastery learning
5. Essentialists believe that the core knowledge could
change
How they change ?
The curriculum according to the essentialists can
change slowly
For the realist, it doesn’t change
For the essentialist,it can change slowly
• Change takes time
You cannot suddenly bring about a random abrupt change in the
curriculum or the teaching methods or the textbook or the
testing or whatever else we do in our classroom
TEACHER’S ROLE
Essentialism as a Teacher-Centered philosophy
• The teacher teaches discipline and hard work
• The teacher is an expert of content knowledge
• The teacher is accountable for student
learning
• Teacher’s role as an expert is to impart
essential knowledge and direct focused tasks
Teaching Strategies
• Use instructional strategies

• Lecture

• Memorization

• Homework

• Teacher and subject centered

• Mastery learning
Role of the Students
• Students should be passive and be ready to
learn what the teacher presents to them

• Students should listen and learn

• Students should trust the teacher knows best


Conclusion
• The education is a social activity which
simplifies,purifies and integrates social
experiences to understand the culture
heritage.
• Always remember! Essentialism instill
students with the most essential knowledge.
