‘ 지금까지 …한 것 중에 가장 ~ 한’의 뜻이다 .

『 the + 서수 + 최상급』 : ‘~ 번째로 가장 …한’의 뜻이다 .

캐나다는 세계에서 두 번째로 면적이 넓은 나라이다 .

『 the last + 명사』 : ‘ 결코 ~ 할 것 같지 않은’의 뜻이다 .

Larry is the last person to tell a lie.

Larry 는 결코 거짓말할 것 같지 않은 사람이다 .

너의 시그니처 스타일이 충돌하는 색을 입는 것이 아니라면 , 색상환을 사용하는

• unless 는 동사의 긍정형과 쓰여 ‘만약 ~ 하지 않는다면’의
뜻으로
『 if ~ not… 』으로 바꿔 쓸 수 있다 .
• 『 Unless ~ … , 주어 will ~ … 』은 ‘만약 ~ 하지 않는다면 ,
주어는
~ 할 것이다‘로 해석한다 .

부사절에서는 현재시제가 미래시제를 대신한다 .

→ 당신에게 목표가 없다면 , 당신은 아무것도 달성하지 못할 것이다 .

→ 네가 비밀을 말해줄 때까지 , 내 비밀을 너에게 말하지 않을 거야 .

once, as long as, in case 등의 접속사들도 조건 부사절을 이끈다 .

once: 일단 ~
하면
ex) I will :travel around the world once I quit my job.
나는 직장을 그만두면 전 세계를 여행할 것이다 .

as long as: ~ 하는 한

ex) As long as we stay inside, we will be safe from the storm.

우리가 실내에 있는 한 , 우리는 폭풍으로부터 안전할 것이다 .

in case: ~ 한 경우에 대비하여

ex) Make sure to bring sunscreen in case we go hiking.
우리가 등산을 할 경우에 대비하여 자외선 차단제를 꼭 가져오세요 .
