INTRODUCTION

 Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) is an alternative

method of wound management, which uses the
negative pressure to prepare the wound for
spontaneous healing .
 It is a therapeutic technique use to promote wound
healing.
Definition

 Vaccume assissted Dressing is also known as Negative Pressure

Wound therapy (NPWT), refers To wound dressing Systems that
continuously Or intermittently apply subatmospheric pressure To
the system. Which provides a positive pressure to the surface of
wound.
 It has become a popular treatment modality for the management of
many acute and chronic wounds.
Purpose

 To accelerate the of granulation tissue.

 To improve perfusion Through the Removal of excess interstitial
fluid.
 To Reduced bacterial colonization
 To enhance epithelial migration.
Indication

 Acute surgical wounds.

Indication

 Pressure ulcers.
 Diabetic wounds.
 Skin grafts.
 Open abdominal wound.
 Partial thickness burns.
Contraindication

 Eschar
 Presence of necrotic and fibrotic tissue.
 Untreated osteomyelitis.
 Malignant wound.
 Localized ischemia.
How it works?

 Vaccume dressing removes excess fluid That interferes

with cellular growth And proliferation.
 It improves blood supply to the wound bed.
 Decrease the chances of bacterial growth On wound
surface.
 Decrease localized edema.
 Enhance formulation of granulation tissues.
Role of nurse

 Explain the procedure to the patient.

 Explain him/her the advantages of vaccume dressing
Such as stimulation of blood Flow, formation of
granulation tissues, angiogenesis, as well as
proliferation, accelerated Secondary wound closure and
removal of bacteria From the wound.
 Monitor Vital sign of patient.
 Arrange all the articles properly.
 Follow aseptic technique.
 Follow hand hygiene practices.
 Do wound assessment as it helps to evaluate the progress of wound
healing.
