Introduction

 Over the past 15 years, the world’s energy consumption has

grown at an alarming rate.
 Per a statistical review by BP (British Petroleum), in terms
of millions of tones oil equivalent, the worlds consumption has
gone up from about 8,500 to over 13,000.
 Although renewable energy sources have become more widely
used, the best way to reduce use of non-renewable
energy sources is to reduce energy consumption.

 with smart blinder the amount of sun light that enters a

room can be adjusted automatically depending on the light
intensity.
 This system consists of a microcontroller embedded system
that automatically adjusts itself in real time depending on the
environment conditions and user preferences.
 Arduino microcontroller is the main component
of this smart blinder. DC motor is used to control the flaps and
the light intensity is measured by LDR.
Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Objectives

 To make a smart blind system which automatically control

daylight which enters the room while maintain room
privacy of the user.
 Project includes design and making a model, compile a
program using Arduino uno, makes necessary circuitry
and DC motor controlling.

 There are 4 inputs

1. The light intensity inside the room.
2. The light intensity outside the room.
3. The user desired light intensity inside the room.
4. Power from the wall outlet at 48v DC
 Output controlling the amount of blinds will open.

Function Of Components

LDR (Light Dependent Resistor)

 An LDR is a light sensitive electronic component. The
resistance changes with the intensity of light incident on it.
Values of the resistance of the LDR ranges over many
orders of magnitude.
 The value of resistance falls as the level of light increases.
Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

DC-DC CONVERTER
 The device was powered from a DC Power Supply set to
provide a 48V input to the DC-DC Converter.
 The converter produced an output of about 5V within a 1%
error.
 The converter was tested by first plugging it into the DC
Power supply with no load attached on the output wires.
 This produced a steady output around 5.03V.
 Over the entire rated range of the converter (8-60V), the
output voltage was steady between 5.03V and 5.05V.

Stepper motor driver module

 A Stepper Motor Driver is the driver circuit that enables
the stepper motor to function.

Bipolar stepper motor

 A stepper motor is a brushless DC motor that divides a full
rotation into several equal steps.
 The motor’s position can then be directed to move and
hold at one of these steps without any position sensor for
feedback
Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Arduino
 As a brain for the system, Arduino microcontroller is used.
 Arduino is an open source platform that produce
microcontroller kits for building devices and projects that
can interacts with the physical world.
 It consists of a physical programmable circuit board and
software that runs on the personal computer.

Arduino flow chart to Operate the blinds

Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

Working
 The system operation is to adjust the light level to the level
the user desires.
 This is done by pressing the two buttons on the
protoboard, one of which opens and one of which closes
the blinds.
 the user will set the desired light level, and as the day gets
lighter or darker, the blinds will automatically open or
close to maintain the same light level inside the room
compared to outside the room.

Advantages And Applications

Advantages
 Protects the interior from Sun
 Enhance the Security of a Smart Home
 Conserves Energy
 Increased Convenience
Applications
 Building's
 Homes
 Nurseries

Conclusion

The result of automatic window curtain design is the system

we make
 The object is the light both the sun and the light with
certain light intensity.
 The sensor will detect the object by sending the LDR
signal, the light-absorbing LDR signal from the object will
be processed by the Arduino,
Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

the Arduino will process the sensor readings, and the result
will be informed to the indicator light that is LED.
 The result of automatic window curtain design is able to
save the work time so efficient and effective, and the
placement of panels match to dimensions of the user body
gives a sense of comfort and security.
