From a small water hyacinth weaving facility, after 20 years, Mr. Le Van Dat, Hai Hoa
neighborhood, Long Hai town, Long Dien district has brought handicraft products made from
water hyacinth to the world. Recently, Mr. Le Van Dat was one of 63 farmers honored by the
Central Vietnam Farmers' Union as "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer 2021".

consumers there but still ensuring aesthetic factors and
environmental friendliness

to complete a water hyacinth basket only through

many difficult steps that took at least two to three

hours on a product that was previously mainly raw

materials.

Then it was the women's turn to stroke the knitting needles. Usually, you

register to request the finished product, but sometimes the materials are at the

labor price

The craftsman knits thread according to request and then sends the finished

product, but sometimes the raw materials are collected at the cost of labor to

collect water hyacinth seeds from local canals and then plant them after four

months when they are destined to collect water hyacinths.

After completing the weaving process, the product will
be sprayed with water in the factory and coated with a
layer of glue to make the water hyacinth more sturdy.
Before being exported to the domestic or foreign
market, it will have to go through a dehumidification
process so that the product meets humidity standards.
Products will be shipped to large companies abroad or
retailed to local households.
