Sweeping a Helix
Part 2 of 3

STEP 1 - Your Folder on the
Schools Server Make a Folder
for Lesson 6 Sweeping a Helix
Step 2 Select Create a New Part
Step 3 Name & Save the Part
Step 4 Save it in the folder you just
made, Name it Lesson 3 Lofting, & then
Click Save
Step 4.2 Now the Part is
Named & Saved
Step 4.3 Now anytime you
want to save all you have
to do is click the save
button
Step 5.1 - Blank Part

• This is what the blank part looks like, until you


click on Start 3D Sketch.
Step 5.2 - 1 Sketch st

• Then the 3 starting planes appear. It prompts


you to select a plane to start the sketch.
Step 5.3 - 1 Sketch st

• Inventor automatically goes into 2D View, &


for some reason lays the 1st sketch over on
it’s side. I flip it TOP VERTICAL…
Step 5.4 - 1 Sketch st

• I spun it around to TOP VERTICAL VIEW.


Step 6.1 – Name Sketch
• Double Click on
the sketch
• Name It 3/8 Bolt
Shaft.
Step 6.2 – Draw a Circle
• Click on the Circle Tool, & Draw a 3/8th”
(0.375”) Circle on the Origin Like Below.
Step 6.3 – Finished
• Clicked
Finished /
Exit to finish
the drawing /
sketch.
Step 7.1
Extrude
• Click on
the
Extrude
Tool.
• Going to
put in 2
Inches.
• Then Click
OK.
Step 8.1 – Inventor’s Thread Tool

• Inventor has a
Thread Tool!
• However…
Step 8.2 – Inventor’s Thread Tool
• It “puts” threads on really quickly
& easily!!!
• However, please NOTE: it only
puts the threads in the drawing!!!
• The Threads Will Not Print, these
threads just appear & are noted in
the drawing as threads.
• For instance, if you try to 3D print
them, they will NOT print!
Step 8.3 – Inventor’s Thread Tool
• When you
click Thread.
• Inventor’s
Thread Tool
Pop-Up Box
should
appear.
Step 8.4 – Inventor’s Thread Tool
• Click on
Surface
• Then Select
the Surface
you would
like threads
placed on.
Step 8.5 – Inventor’s Thread Tool
• I Placed 3/8-16
Pitch ANSI Coarse
Threads on this
Bolt Shaft.
• Placed them for
the full 2 inch
length of the
shaft.
Step 8.6 – Inventor’s Thread Tool

• The threads were easy to place


& they “look” nice, but they
will not export!
