Step 8.

6 – Inventor’s Thread Tool

• The threads were easy to place

& they “look” nice, but they
will not export!
Step 9.1 – Drawing Actual Threads

• Let’s Make Some Actual Cut Threads in a 3D

Model.
Step 9.2 – Drawing Actual Threads
• This is a
3/8th Bolt, it
has a 3”
long fully
threaded
shank, with
threads of
3/8th-16,
Head of the
bolt is 9/16”
Step 9.3 – Bolt Part Names/Terms

• Any 2
parts that
need to
go
together
& move
Need a
GAP!
Step 9.4 – Thread Pitches

• So, our 3/8th-16 = a 3/8th diameter

with 16 threads per inch.
Step 9.5 – Content Center

• You won’t make nuts & bolts often, standard sizes

of nuts & bolts are available in the content center.
Step 9.6 – When You Need This!
• Sometimes you will
have to draw a
special nut &/or
bolt.
• Most often you’ll be
cutting threads in
bolt holes all over
your part! Like the
100 threaded bolt
holes on this
engine block!
Step 10.1 – 3/8 Bolt Shaft

• Made a 3/8” Bolt Shaft 2” Long

Step 10.2 – 3/8 Bolt Shaft

• Select a plane that intersects like so…

Step 10.3 – 3/8 Bolt Shaft

• Put a Sketch on that plane.

• I’m naming it 16 Pitch Thread Sketch
Step 10.4 – The F7 Button

• The F7 Button will “Cut” the part in half along the

sketch you are in. Let’s you draw inside the part!
