We Will Learn in This Presentation:

• What is Air Pollution?

• Its Causes
• How to avoid it
What Is Air Pollution?
• Air is a mixture of numerous gases including nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide,
hydrogen and a few other gases.

• Any substance that causes pollution is called a pollutant.

• Literally, air pollution is the presence of a substance in the air. This substance
could have harmful and poisonous effects.

• In other words, air pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the
Earth’s atmosphere. This cause diseases, deaths to humans and damage to other
living organisms such as plants and animals.

• There are many types of pollutions.

4 Types of Pollution:

Air Pollution Water Pollution

Land Pollution Noise Pollution

Air Pollution – The Causes
Now that we know what air pollution is, let’s study what causes it.

Some sources of air pollution in the

cities include: 7%
8%
• dust, dirt and smoke produced
by construction industries and
9%
factories.
45%

• Transportation, generators,
indoor cooking, waste burning, 14%
etc..

Indoor Air pollution
Pollution can also be happening within a household.
The main sources are:
• Perfumes
• Tobacco products
• Wall Paints
• Products for household maintenance
(such as sprays, laundry detergents, bleach, etc..)
• Pesticides
• Fuel-burning combustion appliances
(Such as Compressed Natural Gas – CNG)
How To Avoid It?
(CNN) More than 30,000 deaths in the United States in a single year may
have been caused by air pollution.

Not only does air pollution kill, but

it also comes with numerous health diseases.
It damages our lungs, affects our heart’s
health, causes migraines,
and much more. There are many
ways we can avoid or prevent this
from happening.
Option 1: We could “go green.”

Going green is a lifestyle change targeted at being

consciously aware of the surrounding environment and
how things we do affect the environment.

It includes:
• saving money,
• using solar energy,
• reducing pollution,
• conserving energy,
• planting more trees and plants.

We could even add some more plants in our

homes. Not only would it look pretty, but it
would also cleanse and purify the air.
Option 2:
We should use our vehicles less often and walk more (this is good for our
health since we are exercising more). We should also carpool and rideshare
whenever we get the opportunity.

Consider using public transportation. Therefore, as a better option,

we could run, jog, walk, or bicycle our way to the desired destination.
Option 3:

If we are using materials that have a lot of chemicals and smell strongly, we
should consider using them outside (for instance, industries are built far away
from cities since they are dealing with hazardous chemicals, and they are bad
for our health) or not using them at all. We could replace some hazardous
chemicals as well with safer and environment friendly options.
Ideas

These were the main three ways that I think could save our environment, but
there are also many other ways.
The following are a few:

Turning off the light Planting a Making use of solar

when not in use garden energy
Ideas

Applying the
Using both sides of Reusing plastic three R’s (reduce,
paper bags reuse, recycle)

Eating organic food

Conclusion

We should take some time to think about this topic. This includes thinking
about how to make a healthy and safe environment instead of damaging it.

Most countries around the world face a similar problem of air pollution. If
we work together as one whole, we can make the world a better place for
everyone.

The choices we make impact both our

environment and the future.
