Chromosomes, Asexual,
Cell Cycle, DNA. B2: Cell Division
- Growth
- Repair
- Replacement
New cells must have the same genetic information as the
original cells so that they can do the same job.
The Cell Cycle
Stage 1
Interphase
- The cell grows in size and mass.
- New subcellular structures are produced.
- Each chromosome is replicated.
- Synthesis of new sub-cellular structures.
- This is the longest stage in the cell cycle.
Stage 2
Mitosis
- The nuclear membrane breaks down.
- Chromosomes line up along the centre of the cell.
- One copy of each chromosome is pulled to each end of
the cell.
- New nuclear membranes form around the two sets of
chromosomes.
Stage 3
Cytokinesis
- Cell membrane pinches inwards dividing the cytoplasm
in two.
- Forms 2 identical daughter cells.

The Cell Cycle
Summarise the cell cycle, and ensure that
you include a diagram for each stage:
1. Interphase,
2. Mitosis,
3. Cytokinesis.
