• Call to Action: Say No to Trash
What is one action you
can take today to
reduce waste in your
daily life?
Pollution of
Land, Water,
and Air

Trash and plastic waste litter landscapes,

waterways, and oceans, causing aesthetic
degradation and harming natural
habitats.
Plastic pollution can pose risks to
human health through the ingestion of
contaminated seafood, exposure to
harmful chemicals leaching from
plastics, and inhalation of
microplastics and plastic-derived
pollutants.

Human Health Risks

Harm to Wildlife

Marine and terrestrial wildlife are adversely

affected by plastic pollution.
Animals may ingest plastic debris, mistaking it for food, leading
to internal injuries, digestive blockages, and starvation. Plastic
entanglement poses additional risks, causing injuries, impairing
mobility, and increasing vulnerability to predators. Plastic
pollution has been implicated in the decline of numerous species,
including seabirds, marine mammals, sea turtles, and fish.
Benefits of Sustainable Waste
Management

• Reduction of Environmental Pollution

• Conservation of Natural Resources
• Promotion of Circular Economy
• Community Health and Well-being
• Creation of Green Jobs and Economic
Opportunities

Role of Government and
Communities in Implementing
Sustainable Waste Management
Policy Development and Regulation

• Governments play a critical role in developing

policies, regulations, and standards to govern
waste management practices.
• Plastic Bag Regulation: In 2011, the
Philippines passed the Republic Act 9003, also
known as the Ecological Solid Waste
Management Act, which provides guidelines
for waste management and environmental
protection.
