THE SOLAR SYSTEM

By
Miron Jomin
THE SOLAR SYSTEM CONSISTS OF :

SUN

PLANETS

MINOR PLANETS

ASTEROIDS & METEOROIDS

COMETS
There are Eight Planets :
Mercury, Venus, Earth,
Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus and Neptune
There are some more planets which exist in our solar
system , They are called as minor planets, such as
Pluto and Eris. In 2014 The International
Astronomical Union recognized five dwarf planets
but it is believed there are more than 200 in all
There are also Moons
that Orbit planets and Dwarf planets
Millions of Asteroids and meteoroids
these are small rocky
objects, which are
much smaller than planets,
that orbit the sun and planets.
Most asteroids are found in the asteroid belt
between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. If it is
larger than 1 meter in diameter, then it is an
asteroid; if it is 2 millimeters to 1 meter in size, it is a
meteoroid.
Comets which are often described as gaint
snowballs, orbits the sun in very irregular
orbits. When they are furthest from the sun,
they are frozen balls of gas, rock and dust. As
they get nearer to the sun they heat up and
leave a trail of dust and gases behind them.
Next Important aspect
in the solar system is the
Sun’s Gravitational Pull
THE SUN’s GRAVITATIONAL PULL
The orbits of the planets are almost circular to move in a circle
an object needs a force pulling it towards the centre of the
circle. The force needed to keep the planets orbiting the sun
comes from the gravitational attraction of the sun . The
gravitational force and the distance between the objects are
inversely proportional to each other. We can compare it by
spinning a ball when it is tied to a string, the ball will spin in a
circle as long as you hold the string.
How did the Planets get formed ?
Evidence collected by astronomers
suggests that the planets were
formed at the same time as the
sun. The solar system began as a
nebula, which is a huge swirling
ball of dust and gas. There were also other elements formed
by fusion in other stars which had exploded in the end of
their life cycle, sending their contents out into the clouds of
interstellar gas. The planets were basically formed from the
materials of the nebula which were not pulled into the sun.
The four inner planets,
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and
Mars are small and rocky.
After mars there is the
asteroid belt(made up of left-
over pieces of rock). The
outer four planets Jupiter,
Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
are huge ball of gases. Outer
planets much bigger than the
Inner planets.
WHAT IS AN ACCRETION DISC AND
ACCRETION
Gravity pull dust and
gas together so they
joined to make rocks
which then join to
make larger rocks. The
Spinning motion of process of the dust and
the dust and gas gas being pulled
formed a flat, Together by gravity is
spinning ring disk. called accretion
This disk is known as
an accretion Disk.
