What is
Health?
Health: a state of
complete physical,
mental, and social well-
being, not merely the
absence of disease or
infirmity (WHO, 1948)
Enabling people to increase control over and
to improve their health
Must be able to identify and realize
aspirations, to satisfy needs, and to change or
cope with the environment
Health is a resource for everyday life,
Health emphasizing social and personal resources
Promotion and physical capacities
Not just the responsibility of the health
sector
