Case Study
Snappy Deliveries – Scalable Platform Services
All Stores, a large retailing company in South Africa has launched a mobile retail delivery platform and application (app) called Snappy Deliveries. The app was
released to customers in 2019, and has grown as a result of COVID-19 and the constraints on physical shopping. Currently, the app is exclusively available in Premium
Stores, the company’s premium supermarket chain which targets the middle to higher income shoppers. The app currently services over 200 stores (across the country),
with over 1 million downloads.
Features of Snappy Deliveries include:
– Product selection based on specific categories
– Electronic payment using credit / debit cards
– Real-time tracking of deliveries
– A minimum cart value
– Dedicated personnel and facilities at stores (pickers, drivers, check-outs, scooter parking)
Some of the challenges with the app include:
– The app responds slowly during peak ordering times
– Alternative suggestions for out of stock items may be inappropriate
– Not all items are delivered – either out of stock or not found by the picker.
– Refunds and returns are complicated – as the funds are not returned and the purchaser has to show proof of the transaction on her/his bank statement.

Despite these challenges, Snappy Deliveries is a success for Premium Stores. The company now wishes to scale Snappy Deliveries to its lower income chain
Economy Stores which has over 450 stores and serves close to 15 million customers.
Accenture has been approached by All Stores to be its Consultant. We have the opportunity to meet with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Information Officer of All
Stores to present some issues on extending Snappy Deliveries to Economy Stores.
We ask you to help us prepare for the meetings by identifying the 2-3 key issues with their implications/recommendation to discuss
with the Accenture manager. There is no restriction to the issues you can raise.
