INTRODUCTIO

Introduction
• As we know water is very essential for human existence , But due
to increase in population and excessive use of ground water it is
depleting. And cause well to dry up. And to keep our existence
water conservation is very necessary
• There are many methods of water conservation ‘WATER
HARVESTING SYSTEM’ is one of them.
• RWH is the system of collecting and storage of water obtained
from rainfall throughout the year.
• RWH system is of two type –a) Storage Tank , b) recharging wel
Storage tank method
• In storage tank method a storage tank is design and constructed according
to the volume of rainfall
• And collected water from various sources such as precipitation, runoff and
Stormwater are collected into the tank for miscellaneous use such as
washing gardening etc.
Recharging well
• A groundwater table recharging well, is a structure design to replenish
underground aquifers with surface water. The goal is to enhance ground
water level and and improves the availability of water
Steps of implementation
• WELL CONSTRUCTION
• WATER COLLECTION
• FILTRATION
• WATER INFILTRATION
METHODOLOGY
• Area Calculation
1 • Probable location for site

• Shape and volume of tank

2 • Design of tank

• Pipeline distribution
3 • Length of pipes
OBJECTIVES OF THE
STUDY
1) To determine the rainfall characteristics of the area.
2) To calculate the rainfall discharge.
3) To find the rainwater potential and its relation with groundwater.
4) To calculate the surface area of the building for total volume of ran
to be collected.
5) To calculate the runoff from different outlets of the building
according to land use and find out the number of recharging
structures needed for the campus.
6)To locate the different types of recharging structures and propose
a design prototype for the campus
RESEARCH GAP
• Cost of rooftop rainwater harvesting implementation in poor areas (unit cost per cubic meter
of water stored).
• Poor quality of water stored for long periods in rooftop rainwater harvesting systems.
STUDY AREA
• The study is carried out in the RCET building of Krishna’s Vikas
Educational campus, situated at Raipur (C.G.).

The study area is situated at 21.2814 ° N and 88.5501 ° E.

The roof area of the RCET building has a total area of 38,000 sq. ft., which
will be effectively used for the collection of rain water.

The study is carried out for the period of 9 years of monthly rainfall i.e.
from October, 2013 to June, 2022.

During this period, the maximum amount of rainfall was recorded in

August 2018 with 893 mm of rainfall. The storage tank will be designed
for the maximum amount of rainfall recorded durint the study period.

The data was acquired from CHRS portal, it is an international

organization for rainfall estimation all over the globe.
Implementation on campus
• We have measure the surface area of the roof
• We went to Indian Meteorology department to collect the rainfall data
• We found the probable site for the tank or well in the campus
• We have to lay pipeline to transport the collected water to the tank or well
• Detailed estimation of the project
ADVANTAGES
• WATER CONSERVATION
• REDUCE WATER BILLS
• REDUCES SOIL ERROSION AND FLOODS
• PROMOT WATER SECURITY
FUTURE SCOPE
• This study can be implemented for storage as well as for
recharge of ground water,
• The study can be made centralized by implementing in all the
three college buildings.
• The study can emphasis in construction of water harvesting
system mandatorily in public and private buildings subjected
to rainfall variation.
