At the end of the presentation, the listeners will be able to:
• To understand what is the digestive system • To know the part of the digestive system and their functions • To be able to answer questions of the top What is digestive system? Can anyone tell me?
The digestive system is the system that breaks down food to
chemical nutrients The is the beginning of the digestive system, chewing breaks the food into pieces that are more easily digested, while saliva mixes with food to begin the process of breaking it down into a form your body can absorb and use. The esophagus is a long, thin, and muscular tube that connects the pharynx food and liquids that have been swallowed into the pharynx to reach the stomach. Your stomach is a sac-like organ with strong muscular walls. In addition to holding food, it serves as the mixer and grinder of food. Your stomach makes acid and powerful enzymes that break the food down and change it to a liquid or paste. From there, food moves to your small intestine. The small intestine or small bowel is an organ in the gastrointestinal tract where most of the end absorption of nutrients and minerals from food takes place. It lies between the stomach and large intestine, and receives bile and pancreatic juice through the pancreatic duct to aid in digestion. The large intestine, or large bowel, is the last part of the digestive system in vertebrate animals. Its function is to absorb water from the remaining indigestible food matter, and then to pass the useless waste material from the body. The large intestine consists of the cecum, colon, rectum, and anal canal. SUMMARY
• The digestive system begins in mouth .
• It goes down to the esophagus and to the stomach. • Food takes four hours to get eliminated. • Small intestine is where the of the absorption, nutrients, and minerals takes place. • Large intestine is the last part of the digestive system and it‘s function is to absorb water and nutrients. What does the digestive system do? •A) Breaks down and handles food •B) Pumps blood throughout the body •C) Helps you breathe •D) Helps your arms and legs move
How does food move through your
digestive system ? A. By gravity B. By wavelike muscle contractions C. By cilia D. By chemical absorption
