The History
of Badminton
How did it begin?
Badminton is a sport that is contested in
international competitions. How did it appear?
Who introduced this sport in the first place? Who
are the recent badminton stars?

The sports badminton came from the evaluation
of a game named shuttlecock and battledore.

Badminton was invented and developed in the
middle of the 19th century by the British.
However, there is a widespread theory exists
that badminton was invented in British India
and then visited England.

Badminton was launched officially on
September 13, 1893, by the Badminton
Association of England.

After that, the association started England


Open Badminton Championship in 1899. Then,
Badminton has started being famous gradually.

After a long time, the Badminton World
Federation was established by England, Wales,
Denmark, Scotland, Canada, Ireland, France
New Zealand and the Netherlands in 1934.
After two years, in 1936, India joined as an
affiliate.

From then, the Badminton World Federation
used to conduct international badminton and
tournaments like the World Champions.

badminton can
be played?
Badminton can be played
as both an indoor and
outdoor games. But, it is
highly recommended to
play badminton as an
indoor game.
Basic types
of equipment
1. RACKET
The racket is one of the most important
equipment that is needed for playing
badminton.

It’s frame shall not exceed to 680mm in length and
230mm in width.

Most of the racket manufacturers categorized this as


“1U” weighing (95-99g) “2U” (90-94g) and “3U” (85-
89g) are usually used for attacks, and “4U” (80-84g)
and “5U” (75-79g), the lightest rackets, are used for
defenses.
2. Shuttle
The second most important thing is the
shuttle. A shuttle is a thing that made
badminton unique from other games.

There are two types of shuttle: Feathered and


nylon.

are cone-shaped materials made from 16
overlying goose feathers fixed around a cork
base, covered with a thin layer of leather.

are also important. But, not
compulsory if you wish to play
badminton for fun purposes.
Basically, the net is used for bringing
certain limitations.

plan to play badminton indoor, then
they are supposed to provide the net.

with a thickness of 15mm-20mm.
This must be set on a pole positioned
on doubles sidelines. The height from
surface must be 5ft. and 20ft. wide.

The badminton court is shape like a
rectangle marked lines of 44ft. wide in
white or yellow color.

BASIC
GRIPS
FOREHAND GRIP
Using your dominant/playing hand,
hold the racket with it. there should
be a V-shape forming in the middle
of your thumb and index finger.
FOREHAND GRIP
Grip the racket a little bit loose to
have a good control and greater
flexibility. This grip is used for
forehead and clear head shots.
BACKHAND
GRIP
Using your dominant/playing hand,
press the wider surface of the
handle using your thumb for
greater leverage and power

Still, grip the racket a little bit
loose in your fingers.

STROKES
OVERHEAD FOREHAND
STROKE
This is the most common and often
used stroke in badminton.

Using the forehand grip, this kind
of stroke creates more power than
the others.
UNDERARM FOREHAND
STROKE
It is usually performed when the
opponent made a drop shot and the
shuttle is cleary in front of you.

STROKE
This stroke is done when the
shuttle is in the backhand area
where it is above your head.
UNDERARM BACKHAND
STROKE
This is done when the opponent
made a drop shot to your backhand
area in front of you.
DIFFERENT
SHOTS
CLEAR SHOT
Using the overhead stroke, aim the
shuttlecock up in the air going to
the opponent’s back court.
DRIVE SHOT
Make a quick counter-attack shot,
making flat, horizontal and fast
back to the opponent’s court.
DROP SHOT
Using an overheas stroke, hit the
shuttlecock softly downward
towards the opponent’s forecourt
close to the net.
SMASH
This is also known as “kill”, this is
a poweful force from up high in the
air hitting the shuttle downwards
and fast towards the opponent’s
court
