LEARNING
OBJECTIVES
AT THE END OF THE LESSON THE
STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
·Predict the outcomes of genetic crosses involving
simple dominant and recessive traits by using
Punnett squares.
·Appreciate the complexity and beauty of genetic
inheritance through hands-on Punnett square
activities and real-world examples.
·Practice manipulating alleles and genotypes within
Punnett squares.
HOW TO
MAKE A
PUNNETT
SQUARE?
HOW TO
WRITE IN A
PUNNETT
SQUARE?
EXAMPLE 1
1. "Mrs. Adam has alopecia (BB), while her
husband Mr. Adam does not or normal(bb).
They are concerned about the likelihood of
their offspring inheriting this condition
because it can lead to bullying. Use a Punnett
square to predict the outcomes for their
children.
GROUP
ACTIVITY!
GROUP
ACTIVITY!
Mechanics: The Problem/situation is presented in the television.
At the time starts, the team leaders will draw a Punnett square
and write the genotypes of father and mother to the Upper and
side of the Punnett square in the cardboard and go in front.
Then, they will go back to their groups and will tap the hand of
the Player 1 to continue answering the 1st box of the Punnett
square. Then the player 1 will go back again to their group, tap
the hand of the next player to answer the 2nd box, and will
repeat the process of the game until the 4 boxes is done. The
fastest player will be the winner who will receive a prize.

dominant Grey
mouse(MM) is crossed
with a heterozygous
white mouse(Mm). Draw

QUESTION 2
2. A father has a
homozygous dominant
Black hair, and a mother
has homozygous
recessive brown hair.
Draw its Punnett Square.

and the mother has
heterozygous Brown eyes
are. Draw a Punnett square.

QUESTION 1
Situation: Pretending that you used a Punnett
square to predict your future offspring and
discovered the possibility that your child may
not meet your ideal expectations or could
potentially inherit untreatable disease such as
being blind, deaf and mute, would you still
choose to bring them into the world?
FACT OR BLUFF
Direction: Stand if it Fact
and Sit if it is Bluff.
FACT OR BLUFF
1. Punnett square is a
diagram that is used to
predicts possible traits of
an offspring inherited
from parents.

2. Gregor Mendel is the
man who devised the
Punnett square.

3. Dominant is the allele
that is Capital/Uppercase
letters.

4. Homo in the word
homozygous means
different.

5. Recessive is the allele
that is Lowercase/small
letters.

6. Monohybrid in Punnett
square has 14 small
squares.
