Learning outcomes:

 Demonstrate an understanding of the scientific attitudes and values

that can be integrated in teaching Science;

 Give examples on how scientific attitudes and values can be

integrated in teaching science topics; and

 Appreciate the importance of holistic approach to science

education.
Core Learning Area Standard:
(Science for the Entire K to 12)

The learners demonstrate understanding of basic science

concepts and application of science-inquiry skills. They exhibit
scientific attitudes and values to solve problems critically, innovate
beneficial products, protect the environment and conserve resources,
enhance the integrity and wellness of people, make informed
decisions, and engage in discussions of relevant issues that involve
science, technology, and environment.

Topic Interactions Among Living Things in Tropical rainforests,

Coral reefs, and Mangrove Swamps
Activity  Let them imagine that they are environmentalists who want
to help the government in protecting the tropical rainforests.

 With the help of their fellow environmentalists, let them

plan and discuss a project that will help protect and
conserve the Philippine rainforests.

 They will choose a specific issue and suggest possible

solutions.

Topic Soil Erosion

E

Activity  Present a case of real – world erosion problems.

 Ask the pupils to identify the contributing factors to

the erosion.

 Divide the class into groups, assigning each group a

different stakeholder role (e.g., farmer,
environmentalist, government official).

 Have them research and present their perspectives on

the issue, propose solutions, and defend their
positions.

Activity  Let them explain to class how to predict weather in a
particular place.

 To make their presentation interesting, they may make

improvised weather instruments like anemometer and wind
vane using local materials that they can find in the
community.

 Let them explain to the class how each intruments is used to

gather data and to predict weather condition.

Activity Present this analogy

Blood flows through the body in definite paths. Blood flow

is similar to traffic. As long as traffic rules are observed, the
flow will be smooth. A problem in any pathway can cause
serious problems. What kind of food must you regulate in
order to avoid congestion in the pathways?

Topic Soil Erosion

Activity Present this scenario. Let them make informed decision and
present them to class.

The manager of a quarrying firm visited your barangay and

expressed his intention to conduct quarrying business in
your area. He promised to make donations (providing school
supplies to the pupils of the barangay and medical supplies
for the barangay health center) if he is permitted to run the
business. Will you go for it as a member of the community?
