SWOT ANALYSIS

Strength (INTERNAL)
1. The only Port Landlord in Fiji, no competitor
2. Employee satisfaction (remuneration/benefits)
3. Uphold its corporate social responsibilities – sponsorships & donations to the community
and under privileged
4. Contributes positively to the economy (dividends)
SWOT ANALYSIS

Weaknesses (Internal)
1. Facility is a multi commodity port
2. Limited infrastructure berthing and storage capacity
3. Aging infrastructure/ facilities that needs upgrading
4. Outsourcing of its profitable services such as port terminal operations, pilotage,
towage etc
5. Location of the wharf area within the city, does not allow for expansion.
SWOT ANALYSIS

Opportunities (external).
1. Expansion to the current wharf facilities
2. Construction of dedicated facilities for the different types of vessels
3. Upgrade and recruit skilled staff eg pilots
 4. Invest in own tug boats to allow more revenue for the company.
 Upgrade slipway facilities to more than 1000ton

Threats (External)
1. The unique ownership structure ofFiji Ports also means that some stakeholders can’t
always support particular growth or development
2. High tariff charged by Fiji Ports Terminal for container vessels,
3. High Fees levied by FPCL, FIRCA, Department of Fisheries.
4. Overlapping of decision making between the two companies – FPCL and FPTL
5. FPCL vs Assets Fiji roles / responsibilities / ownership,

 CONCLUSION
* There is a dire need for expansion & for new facilities to be constructed to better serve
the ever-changing and expanding demands of world shipping.

* In doing so, FPCL will be true to its vision of becoming the hub of the Pacific
