PRONOUNS: ONE/ONES
We can use the words ONE / ONES to replace nouns
in a sentence.
Example:

I have two cars. The blue car is old, and the black car is new. The blue car has
two doors, and the black car has four doors.

I have two cars. The blue one is old and the black one is new. The blue one has
two doors and the black one four doors.

I don’t want the green apples. I want the red apples.


I don’t want the green apples. I want the red __________.
PRONOUNS: ONE/ONES
In the exam some questions were easy, but one question was
very difficult. I answered the easy ones but I didn’t answer
the difficult one.

There are red flowers and blue flowers. The red ones are
roses but what is the name of the blue ones?

Those green vegetables are good. This red vegetable here is


horrible.
Don’t eat the red one. Let’s eat the green ones.
PRONOUNS: EACH OTHER/ ONE ANOTHER

Each other refers to two people


One Another refers to more than two people.
Example:
Peter and Mary helped each other.
= Peter helped Mary and Mary helped Peter

We sent one another Christmas cards.


= We sent them a Christmas card and they sent us a
Christmas card.
COMPLETE THE SENTENCES WITH ONE, ONES,
OTHER, OTHERS, EACH OTHER AND ONE
ANOTHER.
1. My neighbors John, Mike and Ted spent the whole evening arguing with one
another.
2. Small pineapples are sweeter than big ones.
3. Some of the actors went straight to the backstage. The other actors are still
on the stage.
4. A: “Oh, I am afraid there is no other way to do it.”
5. Susan and Maria took photographs of each other while they were on
holidays.
6. She needs new shoes, the old ones are too small.
7. What are you doing here alone? Where are other boys?
8. If you buy two bottles of water, you will get a third one free.
9. This is not the only answer to the question. There are others.
10. Sandra and Angle lost each other in front of the stadium.

When I was a child, I lived in three different houses. The first


one was lovely. The second one was quite small, but it was in
a nice location. The third one wasn’t very nice but there were
six bedrooms. I used the ones on the second floor. The other
ones were on the first floor. `
