What is languange production?

in psycholinguitics languange production

kind to describe all of the stages between
having a concept to express and
translating that translating that concept
into linguistic forms.
four stages for languange
production
languange production divided by into four stage on
psycholinguistic;
A.Conceptualization meaning to how conceptualize the
speech in our mind.
B.Formulation is the eventual output of the process.it
easier to formulate than to conceptualize.
C.Articulation the formation of clear and distinct sound
in speech.
D.Self-Monitoring the process of speakers use to
investigate their speech and to intervene when troubles
arises.
the component of
languange production
Language production begins with the formulation of a message and including steps, there are
3;discourse planning,lexical selection,and syntatic encoding

a) Discourse planning: discussion or analysis of systematic effort made by

individuals, communities,or organization to regulate, develop or manage languange.
b) Lexical selection: the process by accessing and fit an appropriate word to ongoing speech
and also the cor process for languange production.
c) Sytantic encoding: a representation intermediate between a nonlinguistic conceptual level
and a subsequent phonological level containing word .

Deep understanding of the
production process
• Errors are committed only by non-native speakers, but not by native speakers. Native seakrers
often make "mistakes" and correct themselves Immediately, which gives us deep
understanding of the production process
• The production is not one-way transmission of messages Speakers or writers self regulate
constantly so as to ensure each previous stage is accurate.
• Tpeakers or writers are sensitive to mistakes they make: So at the sight of mistakes, they are
capable of readjusting messages at the stages of conceptualization, formulation or articulation
quickly
• The fact that nauve speakers, can monitor and correct mistakes immediately in production
proves Chomsky's idea that there are some idfferences between perfomance and competence.
Competence monitors performance to ensure the productin is accurate
Native speakers often use
different ways to edit their
linguistic peformance

• Firstly, at the very beginning or the conceptualization stage of the

speech, when they find their speech inappropriate, they would start
the utterance all over again.

• Secondly, at the formulation stage or articulation stage, speakers

would not like to start afresh, but renew the sentence in part from
the point.
Conclusion

Language production involves the retrieval of information from memory, the planning of an
articulatory program, and executive control and self-monitoring. These processes can be
related to the domains of long-term memory, motor control, and executive control.
