Cause of the war
– In the 19th century there are differences between the northern and
southern states of the united states
– The northern states were the centres of wealth and manufacturing with
many skilled workers
– In the south there was not much of manufacturing or many skilled
workers
– The southerners felt that they had to pay more taxes than the people of
the north
– The southern states did not want to be a part of the united states
The USA splits
– Abraham Lincoln became the 16th president of the united states in
1860
– He did not want human beings to live in bondage
– The southern states did not want to put an end to slavery
– Southern states broke away from the union
– The north was against this divison
– Civil war broke out in 1861

– North had a bigger army and better equipment and supplies to fight
the war
– In 1863 Lincoln abolished slavery in the south and singed the
emancipation proclamation
– Lincoln declared the salves in all confederate areas to be ‘forever free ‘
– In July 1863 northern troops defeated the southern forces at the
battle of Gettysburg
– President Lincoln made a speech in Gettysburg stated that ‘all men are
born equal
– The war came to an end April 1865
– The northern states won the war and America remained united
