it explains that the Okir has patterns
which are used by the Maranao
artists.

symbol of the ancestral

Art Association of the Philippines (AAP)

Philippine Post-Modern Art (1970 – 1980s)

1. The support of the Philippine Government for the


arts leads to the creation of the Cultural Center
of the Philippines during 1969 gave a venue for
all artists to experiment and explore different art
medium tying closely to the Post Modern Art
Period of the West with Pop Art, Installation Art
and Performance Art
Philippine Contemporary Art (1980s to Present)

1. Known as the “art of today”, it includes artwork


produced during the 1980’s and early 21st centuries
2. This genre goes not have its own approach or style and is
difficult to define because of its variety
Modern art
1. A worldwide movement in culture and society that sought
a new alignment with the expertise and values of modern
industrial life
2. It is characterized by the artist's intent to portray a
subject as it exists in the world, according to his or her
unique perspective and is exemplified by a rejection of
accepted or traditional styles and values.
Postmodern art
1. Wide category of contemporary art created about 1970
onwards. It rejects aesthetics of modern art
2. New art forms includes performance art, conceptual art,
installation art, as well as computer-aided movements
like deconstructivism and projection art
CONTEMPORARY ART’S CHARACTERISTICS

2. It has artistic vanguards that seeks different form of expression

Literary Arts
1. Art forms in the written mode and intended to be
read
2. Example: prose (short stories, novels, essays and
plays) and poetry (narrative poem, lyric poems
and dramatic poems)
