Introduction
This circuit senses the light intensity from the surroundings and determines whether it is day or night. It utilizes a
Light Dependent Resistor (LDR), which changes its resistance based on the light intensity, to detect darkness and
automatically switch the LED on and off. The LDR operates under the following conditions:

High Resistance on LDR = Darkness

Low Resistance on LDR = Brightness

Circuit Diagram
Working Principle
Light Sensing
The circuit is powered by a 9V battery. The LDR is connected to a pair of transistors, which act as
a switch for the LED. The light sensor continuously monitors the ambient light levels in the
environment.

Microcontroller Processing
The microcontroller receives the input from the light sensor and processes the data.

LED Activation
When the ambient light drops below a certain threshold, the microcontroller turns on the LED light
to provide illumination.

Darkness Condition
When the LDR has high resistance (darkness), the transistors turn on, allowing current to flow
through the LED, turning it on.

Brightness Condition
When the LDR has low resistance (brightness), the transistors turn off, cutting off the current to the
LED, turning it off.
Advantages, Disadvantages, and Applications

Advantages Disadvantages Applications

Conclusion
The Automatic Day/Night Light Sensing Circuit effectively senses the light intensity to determine day and night.
By utilizing the Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) and a pair of transistors, it automatically controls the LED based
on the ambient light conditions. This simple and cost-effective circuit can be used for various applications,
including emergency lighting and garden or living area illumination. However, caution should be exercised when
dealing with high-voltage applications like 220V.
