INTRODUCTION OF LAND USE

WHAT IS LAND USE
CONVERSION?
LAND-USE CONVERSION
- Land use conversion is the process of changing
one land classification to another.

- Land use conversion is the most significant cause

of deforestation. This can involve converting
forests to agricultural fields, wetlands to
bustling cities, or grasslands to resource
extraction sites.

I. INTRODUCTION OF LAND USE CONVERSION

WHAT IS LAND USE
CONVERSION?
According to Department of Agrarian
Reform (DAR):

- Land use conversion is defined as the act or

method of modifying the current physical use of a
parcel of agricultural land for either a non-
agricultural purpose or the same agricultural use
but other than soil cultivation as well as growing of
crops and trees.

WHAT IS LAND USE
CONVERSION?
ACCORDING TO FOOD CLIMATE RESEARCH NETWORK (FCRN)
-Land use change (direct). The process, whereby a specific area of land is
converted from one use to another – including from ‘wild’ to human centric uses. This
describes the immediate, local, cause of the change (e.g. cropland replacing
grassland).

-Land use change (indirect). The process whereby a change in the availability of
land in one location, causes the conversion of land from on use to another in another
location, in order to meet demand – mediated by local or international markets for
agricultural goods or in other purposes.

1. Urbanization
-refers to the process of population
concentration into urban areas, resulting in the
growth of cities and towns at the expense of
rural areas.

CONCLUSI
ON

Land-use conversion has wide-ranging and often irreversible environmental

impacts, including loss of biodiversity, disruption of ecosystem services, exacerbation of
climate change, and socioeconomic challenges.
However, acknowledging these challenges empowers to seek solutions. Through
scientific advancements, responsible land plan practices, and a collective commitment
to a sustainable practices, by this the impact of land-use conversion will lessen and will
ensure a healthier planet for all.
