South Asia is a region known for
its rich cultural heritage and
diversity
Comprises of eight countries:
Afghanistan,
Bangladesh,
Bhutan,
India,
Maldives,
Nepal,
Pakistan,
and Sri Lanka
Defi nition
South Asia, also known as the
Indian subcontinent, is located
in the southern part of Asia
The region is characterized by
diverse cultures, languages, and
religious beliefs
It covers an area of
approximately 5 million square
kilometers and is home to over
1.8 billion people
Brief History
South Asia has a rich history
dating back to ancient civilizations
like the Indus Valley Civilization
and the Vedic period
it saw the rise and fall of powerful
empires, including the Maurya,
Gupta, Mughal, and various
regional kingdoms
The region was signifi cantly
infl uenced by trade, culture, and
invasions from Central Asia, the
Middle East, and Europe
