Problems or Pet Peeves in Writing
• Overused cliches (an expression that was once innovative
but has lost its novelty due to overuse, trite expression,
common words) – It is one of the biggest and also broadest
writing pet peeve. ...
• Overused words and phrases
• First and third person
• Incomplete sentences (Sometimes these can be used for
dramatic effect: "An hour passed. Passed slowly as melting
butter)
• Comma slices (These occur whenever a comma either:
fuses two complete sentences without a connecting word;
fuses a complete and an incomplete sentence)
• References (Writing Out Numbers After Listing Them
Numerically)
• Random capitalization, bolding, underlining, quotation
marks
• Spelling/Punctuation/Grammatical mistakes – Most
poorly written books suffer from this problem.
