EARTH’S BIOME
BIOME – DESERT
A Biome is an area classified
according to the species that live in
that location. Temperature, soil
type, and the amount of light and
water are unique to a particular
place allowing scientists to classify
a biome.
A desert is a large area of land,
usually in a hot region, where there
is almost no water, rain, trees, or
plants.
HOW DRY IS A DESERT?

One thing all deserts have in common is that they are

dry.
Most experts agree that a desert is an area of land that
receives no more than 25 centimeters of precipitation a
year.
The amount of evaporation in a desert often greatly
exceeds the annual rainfall
TYPES OF DESERTS
The four main types
of desert include :
1. hot and dry
deserts,
2. semi-arid deserts,
3. coastal deserts,
4. cold deserts.
GROWTH OF PLANTS IN A DESERT

Leaves and stems of

many desert plants have
a thick, waxy covering,
keeping the plants
cooler and reducing
evaporative loss.
