Duties of Chief Inspector
of Schools
117. The Chief Inspector shall—

(a) be responsible, in collaboration with such authorities as


the Minister may appoint, for ensuring that an adequate
standard of teaching is developed and maintained in
educational institutions;
(b) inspect educational institutions or cause educational
institutions to be inspected by an Inspector of Schools at
such intervals as he shall deem appropriate;

(c) when directed so to do by the Minister, inspect an
educational institution or cause the educational institution
to be inspected; and

(d) undertake such other duties in relation to the inspection


of educational institutions as the Minister may direct or

• Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris trains both

• Qualified teachers must have professional and
content qualifications

(Chemistry) Dip. In Education; Bachelor of

• Each teacher is certified to teach in their

are required to obtain teaching permit from
MOE.

SEVEN CHARACTERISTICS OF A PROFESSION.
(Rich), A profession
1. Requires a high degree of general and systematized
knowledge,
2. Requires a long period of specialized intellectual training,
3. Is characterized by work that is essentially intellectual,
4. Provides a unique social service,
5. Controls its standards of entrance and exclusion,
6. Develops and enforces a professional code of ethics, and
7. Grants practitioners a broad range of autonomy.

of training determined by an authoritative
body of assessors in the profesion
2. Teacher training has a structured curriculum

period of theory and practice

PROFESSION
Some of the recommended practices including:
• Avoid behaviors that can cause people to lose
confidence in the teaching profesion
• Trustworthy in respect of the financial matters
• Pupils interest is paramount – above all other
interests

• Focus attention on the needs of each pupil
• Educate and act fairly to all students
regardless of race, color, sex, religion, political
beliefs, place of origin, family of origin,
intellectual and other status
• Act as 'surrogate parents' (In Loco Parentis) to
students
• Detect and accept individual differences and
develop students' potential in terms physical,
emotional, spiritual and intellect (JERI)

• Did not say and do things that can undermine confidence in
pupils and parents
• Not demanding any payment from students for additional
instruction during the school / school holiday unless the
payments are confirmed
