 CONCEPT

Demarcation of planning region is the first step in the preparation of any regional
development plan to ensure tentative operational area of planning .
 PRINCIPLE OF DEMARCATION :
Firstly, the discovery of planning regions or demarcation of
planning region must begin with the discovery of natural region
themselves.

Secondly, planning region must be discover at micro level.

Thirdly, the regional boundary for planning purpose need to be

demarcated irrespective of the administrative boundary as the
matter of principle.

Fourthly, the boundary of planning region a different scale –

micro, meso ,macro, should not cut across each other .

Fifthly, the boundary of planning region could not be

permanent.
 CRITERIA
The criteria that could help demarcation of planning region may include :

(i) functional unity

(ii) areal contiguity
(iii) compactness of shape
(iv) similarity of problem
(v) economic viability
(vi) convenience of size
(vii) regional affinity
