INTRODUCTION
 The term ‘infrastructure’ originally denoted the underlying resources needed
for warfare, e.g. roads, industries, and industrial workforce.
 Infrastructural intervention refers to planned actions or measures taken to
improve or modify physical structures, systems, or facilities within a specific
environment or setting.
 This can include making changes to buildings, transportation networks,
utilities, or other essential infrastructure components to address specific needs,
improve functionality, enhance safety, or achieve desired outcomes.
 Every year, intentional and unintentional injuries account for about five
million deaths or 9% of all global mortality the developing countries
contributing almost 90% of this burden.
ALLOCATION OF FIRST AID KIT BOX
 Strategically placing first aid kits ensures quick access to essential medical
supplies during emergencies.
 Proper allocation of first aid kits is crucial for effective response to injuries or
medical incidents.
 First-aid boxes should contain a sufficient quantity of suitable first-aid
materials.
 They should not contain oral medication of any kind other than those required
for first-aid treatment.
 Each first-aid box should be placed in an identifiable, well-illuminated and
accessible location. Where a workplace covers a large area, an adequate
number of first-aid boxes should be provided
Considerations for Determining Locations:
 Identify high-traffic areas where accidents are more likely to occur.
 Place first aid kits in easily accessible and visible locations, such as
– Entrances and exits
– Schools and Playground
– Workstations or Industries
– Construction and Mining Site
– High Risks Areas
ALLOCATION OF FIRE
EXTINGUISHER
 The extinguisher should be available for immediate use at all times.
 Extinguisher should be sited in such away that user may not have to travel
more than 15m from the site of fire to reach it.
 Similar position on each floor of building is advisable.
 The extinguisher should be placed either in a trolley or mounted on wall
firmly.
 In Public transportation, Fire extinguisher is placed with a wider space for
emergency exit in case of Fire.
ALLOCATION OF LIFE JACKET
 It should be placed near every river that provides a swimming, rafting and
boating facility.
 People in any case fall in the water & suffer to drowning, so there should be
lifeguard who jumps into the water to save the victim’s life with life jacket, or
rescue buoyant tube.
 Life jacket can also be used as first aid equipment during the natural calamities
like flood, landslide.
AVAILABILITY OF AMBULANCE
 The first thing when there is an encounter with any casualty is to call for help.
In Nepal, we can call on 102 for the Ambulance service or simply call the
nearest hospital you know.
FIRST AID PROCEDURE MANUAL
 A first aid procedure manual provides step-by-step guidance for responding to
medical emergencies.
 It ensures consistency and accuracy in first aid procedures across the
organization
 Provide printed copies in visible locations.
 Offer digital versions for easy access on electronic devices.
 Conduct training sessions to familiarize staff with the manual.
Common Procedures Covered:
 CPR and AED usage
 Wound care and bandaging techniques
 Handling fractures and sprains
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE
EQUIPMENT/MEASURES
 PPE protects both the responder and the patient from potential hazards.
 It reduces the risk of cross-contamination and exposure to infectious agents.

Training and Protocols:

 Train staff on the proper use, removal, and disposal of PPE.
 Establish protocols for selecting appropriate PPE based on the type of
emergency.
Examples of Essential PPE Items:
 Gloves
 Face masks
 Eye protection (goggles or face shields)
 Aprons or gowns
 At Construction & Mining Site,
– Helmets and Safety Boots
– Respiratory Protections
FIRST AID/SICK ROOM

 First aid/sick rooms designate dedicated spaces equipped to provide

immediate medical assistance and care for individuals experiencing
illness or injury.
 These rooms offer privacy, comfort, and essential resources for effective
medical intervention.
Considerations for Setup and Equipment:
 Comfortable seating or bedding for patients.
 First aid materials (which may include protective equipment and blankets)
 Basic medical supplies (bandages, gauze, thermometer)
 Means of communication (phone or intercom)
 Designate staff members with first aid training to manage the room.
 a record book for recording incidents.
 Ensure they are equipped to handle various medical situations.
MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION
 Regular maintenance ensures that first aid equipment and facilities are in
optimal condition.
 It helps identify and address any issues before they compromise safety.

Checklist for Inspection:

 Check expiration dates on medical supplies.
 Ensure all equipment is clean and functional.
 Restock supplies as needed.
Procedures for Addressing Maintenance Issues:
 Establish a reporting system for staff to report maintenance issues.

 Designate responsible personnel to address maintenance tasks promptly.
