relationships, including the acceptable and
unacceptable expressions of attractions
• express his/her ways of showing attraction,
love, and commitment
• identify ways to become responsible in a
relationship
PERSONAL
RELATIONSHIPS
Relationships are imperative for many different
reasons such as increasing our emotional well
being, creating stability, learning how to be a good
friend or mate, having someone to count on and
trust in times of need and someone to vent to when
we face challenges.
Who will you build a
relationship with?
RELATIONSHIP WITH PARENTS
Teens' relationship with their parents is strongly associated with
healthy social development. The parent-child relationship is
associated with the development of skills such as conflict
resolution and intimacy.

good parent-child relationship = good social relationship with

friends and romantic partners, and also affects adolescent’s
psychological and psychosocial development.
RELATIONSHIP WITH SIBLINGS
Interactions with siblings can influence adolescents’
relationship styles and whether they engage in delinquent
behaviors. Good sibling ties can help protect teens from
family stress and may enhance cognitive development.
RELATIONSHIP WITH GRANDPARENTS
AND OTHER ADULT FAMILY MEMBERS
Non-parental adults who are family members can serve as
role models, teachers, and supporters to teens. More
specifically, grandparents may serve as a source of support
and influence, as well as provide information about family
history and culture.
RELATIONSHIP WITH PEERS
Adolescents’ social relationships with peers, whether
platonic or romantic, can promote social skills. Through
their friendships, teens can develop constructive
interpersonal skills, autonomy, positive mental health, self-
confidence, and satisfaction with social support.
