WHAT IS
NUCLEIC ACID?
A nucleic acid is an organic macro molecule which it's a large organic
compound made from thousands or hundreds thousands of smaller
molecules
NUCLEIC ACID?
The nucleotides in DNA contains one of four possible nitrogenous
bases. They are called adenine, thymine, cytosine or guanine.
Both DNA and RNA are made up of monomers
called nucleotides. Nucleotides in RNA also contain one of four nitrogenous bases
adenine,uracil, cytosine or guanine.
HOW DO NUCLEOTIDES
ASSEMBLE INTO NUCLEIC ACIDS?
lThe phosphate group in one nucleotide bond There are differences in there overall structures
with the pentose sugar in another nucleotide.
The assembled string of nucleotides from a For example, RNA is a single stranded nucleic acid
nucleic acid polymer.
While DNA is a double stranded nucleic acid.
Both DNA and RNA have a alternating sugar The two strands in DNA are linked by hydrogen bonds
and phosphate groups. that connects the nitrogenous bases from one strand to the
nitrogenous bases from the other strand
IN SUMMARY:
• organic macro molecules
•2 types- DNA and RNA
• DNA and RNA used to transmit heredity and help build proteins
•CHONP
• nucleotides monomers that bond together to form DNA and RNA
• 3 compounds in nucleotides - phosphate groups, 5 carbon sugar (PENTOSE),
nitrogenous bases.
• DNA nitrogenous bases are adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine
