Illegal Drugs

A drug is a substance that affects the way the body

functions. If a drug is classified as ‘illegal’, this means that it
is forbidden by law. Different illegal drugs have different
effects on people and these effects are influenced by many
factors. This makes them unpredictable and dangerous,
especially for young people.
The Causes of Drug Addiction

 Poverty

A person so broke and has no choice would try to find an

faster way to get money, and for them selling of illegal drugs
is more faster and easier way compare to those other
business. While pushing drugs, some people especially those
who do not know how to control their selves would also be a
user of it and eventually become addicted.
The Causes of Drug Addiction

Lack of Information

People with less knowledge on the subject would try

to experiment over the substance without any
precaution that they can possibly get addicted.
The Causes of Drug Addiction

Curiosity
Drug addiction can start with experimental use of a
recreational drug in social situations, and, for some
people, the drug use becomes more frequent. This might
be because they are curious about it. This occurs
especially over teenagers who are still on the stage of
their life where they explore many different things.
The Causes of Drug Addiction

 Lack of parental guidance

Is seen as a contributing factor in the rise of drug dependents among
youth. Children who grow up in households with loving and supportive
parents have a much better chance at becoming healthy and successful
individual. But, as all those who work with children know, this isn't
always the case. Many of them have to endure abuse, neglect, and other
types of bad parenting each day. And this leads to serious emotional and
behavioral problems that affect them throughout the rest of their life. If
prolonged, the child could get influenced by his/her peers on using
illegal drugs without the parents even knowing.
The Causes of Drug Addiction

Peer influence
When a child hangs out with kids who do certain things,
the tendency for the child to join in greatly increases. In many
cases, children and teens feel an intense pressure to fit in.
They will behave and make decisions based on what they
think their peers want them to do. If your child thinks that
taking drugs or drinking alcohol will raise their peers have for
them, there’s a good chance that he or she will try it at least
once. This might also be linked to lack of parental guidance.
The Causes of Drug
Addiction

Misconceptions
Some people believes that using illegal drugs can make
them more respectable, cool and also a way to escape on
problems. But all of this, are some of many misconception
about using of drugs that can be another factor that causes
drug addiction. Another myth is that only "hard" drugs are
dangerous like heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine but in
reality any substance that can lead to addiction and
dependence can be dangerous.
The Effects of Drug
Addiction

Mental disorder
Drug use can have significant and damaging short-term
and long-term effects. Taking some drugs can be
particularly risky, especially if you take high doses or
combine them with other drugs or alcohol. Drug addiction
itself is already a mental disorder. The compulsive
behaviors associated with substance use disorders
(addictions) bear similarities to other mental illnesses.
The Effects of Illegal Drug
Addiction

Imprisonment

Using of illegal drugs can lead to imprisonment if caught

by the authorities in knowledge due to R.A. 9165 or the
"Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002". The
penalty ranges from 12-20 years and even life
imprisonment.
The Effects of Illegal Drug
Addiction

Can harm other people

A person under the substance would be in a state of

mind and could do anything without being aware of it. Drug
use are associated with harassment, rape, murder cases due
to the aggressive behavior an abuser has.
The Effects of Illegal Drug
Addiction

Affects to an individual's health.

Using of Illegal drugs is not good to our health. It causes
several complications in our body including psychotic
behavior, seizures or death due to overdose. One particular
danger of club drugs is that the liquid, pill or powder forms
of these drugs available on the street often contain unknown
substances that can be harmful, including other illegally
made or pharmaceutical drugs. It can also be linked to HIV
because of the cases where people share needles.
The Effects of Illegal Drug
Addiction

Ruin your future life

After the effects took over the abuser, he or she can be in
a crucial state of losing family, friends, job and would be
very dependent over drug use. The person would choose to
ignore anything from the outside world. Spending money to
buy illegal drugs can take away money from other needs,
that could lead to debt, and to illegal or unethical behaviors.
Drug use can negatively affect academic performance and
motivation to excel in school for children.

Generalization

For the generalization, we cant deny the fact that using of illegal
drugs is very rampant nowadays and considered as one of the most
worst problem of the country. And as a young Filipino students that
wants to live in a healthy and peaceful community, this is not a good
indication. In this study we identified that poverty, lack of Information,
curiosity, lack of parental guidance, peer influence and misconception
are some of the causes of illegal drug addiction. We also indentified
some of the effect of illegal drugs, such as mental disorder,
imprisonment, can harm other people, affects individuals health and
can ruin your future life.
Generalization

In connection with this, we derived on building an

organization named YTIDS ( Youth of Today for Illegal Drug-
free Society organization) that the main objective is to bring an
awareness, lessen the people who get involve on using illegal
drugs and to achieve a drug-free society through our advocacy
such as conducting a symposium, lectures and counseling to a
different public places, and also making a proposal that can help
people more active in sports or other recreational activities so
that they can take away themselves to get involve of using
