ABSTRACT
⮚Duplex stainless steel 2205 is subjected to 'NITRIDING'.
⮚Conventional Nitriding process at 550 degree celsius is normally
increase hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
⮚But in stainless steel is subjected to Nitriding process at 550 degree
celsius it increase the hardness.
⮚But it decrease the corrosion resistance because of high alloying
element of like chromium in stainless steel to form the chromium
nitrides Cr4 N4 and chromium iron carbide Cr15, Fe7, C6.
⮚So we calculate, how much corrosion rate are increased after
nitriding.
MATERIAL SELECTION
ASTM A790 UNS S32205 Duplex steel pipe
Dimension: 1 Meter length
1/2 Diameter
Type : Seamless
Shape : Round
Chemical composition:
C - 0.030, Mn - 2.00, P - 0.030, Cr - 22.0 - 23.0.
MICROSTRUCTURE OF 2205 DUPLEX STAINLESS STEEL
NITRIDING PROCESS PARAMETER

 Furnace temperature : 550°c

 NH3 : 82 - 85%
 Process duration : 8 hours

Pit type furnace

WORK PLAN
⮚Immersion corrosion test of untreated sample
for calculating the corrosion rate.
⮚Nitriding of untreated sample.
⮚ After Nitriding, Nitrided sample is undergone
the immersion corrosion test for calculating the
corrosion rate.
