Regular Updates
Updating your devices is important, it's not just about the new
features, it’s about locking the doors closed to potential threats.

Ensure you keep all of your computer systems at the latest

software version available to you.
How can cyber criminals gain access to your
device?
• Downloading & Executing malicious files.
• A malicious file (called a worm) running on someone else's
computer on your network, this can spread without user
interaction to your computer.
• Worms that are not already on a computer system must be
executed first.
• You cannot get malware by clicking on random links or
downloading random software, software has to be executed
first.
Safety on Social Media
• 90% of cyber-attacks begin with a phishing email, disguised
as a familiar social media message or notification.
• Be sceptical of unknown messages and friend requests
Data backup
Ransom ware attacks are increasingly common, ensure that you
are regularly backing up your important files to an external hard
drive or cloud service to ensure you can recover from such an
attack.
