INTRODUCTION
POLLUTION ,WHAT IT IS AND ITS TYPES
In basic, the term Pollution stands for contamination of
environment.
Pollution is mainly caused due to human activities e.g.unslightly
piles go garbage,Dust,Industrial waste etc.

TYPES OF POLLUTION
There are four types of pollution as mentioned below:
Air pollution.
Land pollution.
Water pollution.
Noise pollution.
WAYS TO CONTROL POLLUTION
There are two options which can be used to reduce
pollution.
These two types are:
The Stick Approach and The Carrot Approach.
The Stick Approach means that there should be rules and
regulations for Waste disposal, good maintenance of
roads,vehicles(Use of Catalytic Converters),factories
etc,Change in the behaviour of people and Companies.
The Carrot Approach means that people need to be
educated about Three Rs: Reduce,Recycle and Reuse.
WAYS TO CONTROL POLLUTION
(CONTINUED)
From the Stick Approach to work, the Laws and Regulations
should be enforced.
In many different countries like India now the Authorities are
strictly applying the Rules for better environment in their country.
The Carrot Approach to work means that things can be cut back on
amount used and the waste produced, recover waste product sand
make new materials from them and at the end it means that things
should be used again and again(polythene bag, glass bottles).
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY RESOURCES

Alternative energy resources are which those are non polluting

and renewable.
Some examples are :
Hydroelectric power from fast flowing water.
Wind power produced by the turning of tall turbines.
Solar power using solar panels.
Geothermal power produced by the use of underground heat.
Wave power produced by the movement of strong waves.
WHY MORE ALTERNATIVES ARE NOT USED
Its because people think that it is a slow process in changing
Fossil Fuels with its Alternatives.
despite of its all advantages e.g.
Do not contribute to Global Warming as it does not produces
Carbon emissions.
Renewable as it is always available.
Clean as no local Air Pollution and Water Pollution.
Locally available as many can meet small scale needs.
Widely available as one or more likely to available in most
countries.
WAYS OF IMPROVING
WATER QUALITY AND
SUPPLY
PROVIDING CLEAN WATER TO RURAL
AREAS
It is a basic Human right to have access to safe and clean water.
But in Asia only:
One in Three people lack access to safe drinking water within two
hundred meters of home;
One in Two people do no not have access to basic sanitation.
Some International Organizations are trying to help
One example of a new policy is “WATER FOR ALL” launched by
ADB(Asian Development Bank) in 2001 for Asian countries.
