Smart Antenna
Smart Antenna: is antenna array and are using
advanced signal processing techniques. The
advanced antenna systems that can dynamically
adjust their radiation pattern in response to changing
signal conditions. They enhance wireless
communication by improving signal quality, reducing
interference, and increasing system capacity. Smart
antennas use techniques like beamforming to focus
signals in specific directions, improving overall
performance in applications such as wireless
networks and satellite communication.
Smart Antenna
The two important functions performed by smart antennas are:
1- Determining the direction of arrival (DOA) for the incoming signals.
2- Forming the beams and steering them in the desired directions while
minimizing the interfering signals.
Smart Antenna
The Advantages and Disadvantage of Smart Antennas:-
Advantages of Smart Antennas Disadvantages of Smart Antennas
1. Higher Capacity 1. Complexity and Cost
2. Higher Coverage 2. Power Consumption
3. Higher Data Rates 3. Compatibility
4. Improved Signal Quality 4. Scalability
5. Increase in Transmission Efficiency 5. Signal Focusing
6. Improved Mobility 6. Environmental Factors
7. Reduction of Bit Error Rate
8. Reduction of Co-channel Interference
Smart Antenna
There are generally two types of Smart Antennas :-
1. Adaptive Antennas: These antennas use adaptive signal processing
techniques to adjust their radiation patterns in real-time based on the
incoming signals. They can employ techniques like beamforming and
nulling to enhance signal quality and reduce interference.
2. Switched-Beam Antennas: Switched-beam antennas have multiple
fixed beams that can be switched on or off. Each beam is designed to
cover a specific direction, allowing the antenna to adapt to different
signal sources.
