APIS MELLIFICA
HISTORY
In 1847, the attention of the writer was first directed to
Apis mellifica as a remedial agent by the following
unique cure:
A lad, aged 12 years, had suffered from ascites and
hydrothorax for several months.
He was treated first by allopathic physicians for three
months.
Afterwards by a homeopathic physician for several
months.
No permanent relief from either of them.
APIS MELLIFICA
HISTORY
At this stage of the case a strolling Indian woman,
suggested to the family to use honey bee every night
and morning.
She enclosed the bees in a tin box and placed them in a
heated oven until they were killed.
After powdering them, administered one in syrup every
night and morning.
After 24 hours the skin became less hot and softer.
Respiration became easier. Urine output increased.
It was the first cure of dropsy by Apis which was ever
reported.
APIS MELLIFICA
HISTORY
Kent says, “It is queer (surprising) how old
women knew, long before Apis was proved,
that when the little new-born baby did not
pass its water they could find a cure by
going out to the bee-hive and catching a
few bees, over which they poured hot
water, and of which they gave the baby a
teaspoonful. Some domestic things like
that have been known among families and
among nurses, and it is consistent,
because it is just like what we give Apis
for.”

HISTORY
It is Guernsey, Kent and Nash who give valuable
pictures of Apis.
