APIS MELLIFICA
HISTORY
In 1847, the attention of the writer was first directed to
Apis mellifica as a remedial agent by the following
unique cure:
A lad, aged 12 years, had suffered from ascites and
hydrothorax for several months.
He was treated first by allopathic physicians for three
months.
Afterwards by a homeopathic physician for several
months.
No permanent relief from either of them.
APIS MELLIFICA
HISTORY
At this stage of the case a strolling Indian woman,
suggested to the family to use honey bee every night
and morning.
She enclosed the bees in a tin box and placed them in a
heated oven until they were killed.
After powdering them, administered one in syrup every
night and morning.
After 24 hours the skin became less hot and softer.
Respiration became easier. Urine output increased.
It was the first cure of dropsy by Apis which was ever
reported.
APIS MELLIFICA
 Acts on cellular tissues causing œdema of skin and mucous
membranes.
APIS MELLIFICA
HISTORY
It is Guernsey, Kent and Nash who give valuable
pictures of Apis.

APIS MELLIFICA
HISTORY
Guernsey says the pains are like bee
stings, with thirst and burning.
Suddenly screams while sleeping.
These are the valuable keynotes to the
use of this remedy.

Acts on membranes causing swelling, pain and
inflammation.
What are the membranes?
Where these are located?
If you understand the types of
membranes and their location in the
body then you will be able to
understand Apis.
Membranes
Membranes are thin layers of epithelial tissues
bound to underlying layer of connective tissues.
There are mainly six types of membranes.

1. Cutaneous membranes
2. Serous membranes
3. Mucus membranes
4. Synovial membranes
5. Membranes of the brain (meninges)
6. Cell membrane
Cutaneous Membrane
Cutaneous membrane is the skin.
Serous Membrane
Serous membranes are found in closed cavities like
pleura (lungs), pericardium (heart), peritonium
(abdomen).
Mucus Membrane
Mucus membranes line the body cavities that open
to the exterior such as digestive system, respiratory
system, reproductive system, urinary system, etc.
Synovial Membrane
Synovial membranes are present in joints that
secrete synovial fluid to prevent friction between the
joints and their free movement.
Membranes of the Brain (Meninges)
These are protective membranes around the brain.
These are called meninges.
Cell Membrane
It is a semi-permeable membrane encasing the cell.
It allows selective materials to cross.
Diseases of the Membranes
Membrane Disease
Cutaneous membrane Inflammation of the skin,
urticaria, skin rash, edema,
inflammation of skin,
Pericardium (heart) Pericarditis
Pleura (lungs) Pleuritis
Synovial membrane (joint) Synovitis

hydrocephalus.

colour.
