• Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of
Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said: "Whoever takes a path
upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes
the path to Paradise easy for him."

• Zayd ibn Thabit reported: The Messenger of
Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“May Allah brighten the face of a person
who hears a tradition from us and he
memorizes it until he can convey it to
others. Perhaps he will convey it to one who
understands better than him, and perhaps
one who conveys knowledge does not
understand it himself.”
Sunan Abī Dāwūd 3660
Significance of Ashab ul Hadith
• Quran is enough.
• Following Hadiths is not mentioned in
the Quran.
• Allah SWT only preserved Quran.
• Hadiths were written 250 Years after the
Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
• Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬himself forbade writing
of the Hadiths.
• Following the Amal e Tawwatur is
Sunnah.
• There are chances of fabrication in
Hadiths.
Prophecy of Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬on
Hadith rejecters
• Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib Al-Kindi
narrated that:
• The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said:
"Soon there will come a time that a man
will be reclining on his pillow, and when
one of my Ahadith is narrated he will say:
'The Book of Allah is (sufficient) between
us and you. Whatever it states is
permissible, we will take as permissible,
and whatever it states is forbidden, we will
take as forbidden.' Verily, whatever the
Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬has forbidden
is like that which Allah has forbidden.“
Significance of Ashab ul Hadith
• It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir
b. 'Abdullah who said: I heard the
Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬say: A group of
people from my Ummah will continue to
fight In defense of truth and remain
triumphant until the Day of judgment.
• Muhammad Ibn Isma‘il (ie. Al-Bukhari)
said: “Ali Ibn Al-Madani said:
“They are the people of hadith’.”
• Ali ibn Al Madini, was reported to have
said: “Understanding the meaning of
Hadeeth is half of knowledge and knowing
how to differentiate between the Hadeeth is
half of knowledge.”
• Al-Awzai saying:
“It is incumbent upon you to
adhere to the traditions of
those who came before,
even if the people reject
you. And I warn you against
the opinions of men, even if
they embellish them with
fine words, for the matter is
clear and you are following
the straight path.”

Manner/Habit/Conduct
• According to the Muhaditheen
(Scholars of Hadith):
Sunnah is any statement, action,
approval, physical attribute,
manner, or conduct of Prophet
Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬both before
and after revelation.
• Some Usoolis add to the

• According to the Usoolis (Scholars of the Principles in Shariah)
Sunnah is any statement, action, or approval, of Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh) after revelation.

• Some Usoolis add to the definition: “and also the Sunnah of the
Khulafah ar-Raashideen. (The 4 rightly guided Caliphs). This is done
because the actions of the khulafah can be used as legislation, using
the following hadeeth as Proof:
“Follow the My Sunnah, and the Sunnah of the 4 righteous khulafah
after me.”
• According to the Scholars of Aqeedah (Creed)
• Sunnah is the opposite of bida’a (innovations in religion)
• Muhammad bin Ja’far narrated to us, Shu’bah narrated to us, on
authority of Mansūr, on authority of Rab’iy ibn Hirāsh, that he heard
Alī, may Allah be pleased with him, giving a Khutbah and he said that
the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah upon him, said:
‘Do not lie upon me; indeed whoever lies upon me will enter the
Fire’.

Fitna of Liars
• Focusing on the few authentic narrations is worthier for them than seeking an abundance
of weak narrations.
‫ المقدمة‬Sahih Muslim
• Abu Hurayrah saying, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah upon
him, said:
• ‘There will be in the end of time charlatan liars coming to you with narrations that you
nor your fathers heard, so beware of them lest they misguide you and cause you
tribulations’.’
• Abdullah bin Mas’ūd said:
• ‘Indeed Satan will appear in the form of a man and he will come to the people, narrating
to them false Ḥadīth, and they will then depart. Then a man among them will say: ‘I heard
a man whose face I recognize but I do not know his name narrating [such and such]…’
• Abū Ja’far Muhammad bin us-Sabbāh narrated to us, Ismā’īl bin
Zakariyyā’ narrated to us, on authority of Āsim il-Ahwal, on
authority of Ibn Sīrīn that he said:
• ‘They would not ask about the chains of narration, and when the
Fitnah occurred, they said: ‘Name for us your men’. So Ahl us-Sunnah
would be regarded, and their Ḥadīth were then taken, and Ahl ul-
Bi’dah would be regarded, and their Ḥadīth were not taken’.
• Abdullah bin al-Mubārak saying:
• ‘The chain of narration is from the Dīn, and were it not for the chain
of narration whoever wished could say what he wanted’.
Compilation of Hadiths
• Abdullah bin Amr says: We were seated near prophet of Allah‫ ﷺ‬and
were writing, in this manner was asked: which city will be first
conquered, Constantinople or Rome?
He ‫ ﷺ‬said: Hercules's city will be conquered first.
[Darmi, pg 126: Sanad is Sahih]
• Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said: Write this hadith and give it to Abu shah
[Sahih Bukhari & Sahih Muslim]
• Ali says: We don't have anything but Kitab Allah and the scriptures in
which are hadiths of prophet of Allah ‫ﷺ‬
[Sahih Bukhari & Sahih Muslim]
• Abdullah ibn Amr reported: I would write down everything I heard
from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
wanting to memorize it, but the Quraysh told me not to do it. They
said, “Do you write down everything you hear from him? The Prophet
is a human being; he speaks when he is angry and pleased.” So I
stopped writing things down. I mentioned it to the Prophet and he
pointed to his mouth and he said, “Write, for by the one in whose
hand is my soul, nothing comes out of it but the truth.”
