OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to ;

1. To examine Edgar Dale’s Cone of Experience .


2. To define the Cone’s Eleven (11) Stages.
3. To apply the Cone of Experience in Education.
 An American educator who develop the
Cone of Experience, also known the
Learning Pyramid.

 He first introduced Cone of Experience in


1946 in His book “Audio – Visual
Methods in Teaching.”

 The Father of modern Media Education.

The Cone of Experience is a pictorial device


use to explain the interrelationships of the
various types of audio - visual media, as well
as their individual “positions” in the learning
process.
11 Stages of Dale’s Cone of Experience

1.Direct, Purposeful Experience

• First-hand Experience.
• Bring direct participation in the outcome and uses
our senses.
2. Contrived Experiences
• Used as substitutes for real things when it is not practical or
possible to bring or do the real things in the classroom.

• Edited copies of reality.

3. Dramatized

Experience
All dramatization is essentially a process of communication in which both participants
and spectators are engaged.

Dramatized divided into 2 Categories


Acting – actual participation
Observing – watching a dramatization take place.

4. Demonstration
• It shows how certain things, and it visualizes of an important fact or idea.

5. Study Trips
• It is usually observation for education, non-experimental research or to
provide students with experiences outside their everyday activities.
6. Exhibits
• Are experiences that are for the eyes only. It’s a great way to present students with
exposure to new ideas, discoveries and inventions that would be difficult to display
in a classroom setting.

7. Educational Television
• Educational Television is the use of television programs in the field of distance
education.

8. Motion Pictures
• It is use to slow down a fast process.

• It can omit the unnecessary or unimportant material.


9. Audio and Pictures
• It is for those students who cannot deal with the motion or pace of real
event. This is usually understood by those who have difficulties in reading.

10. Visual Symbols


• Help the students to see the ideas, events or processes with use of different
symbols.

11. Verbal symbols


• Use if the words or verbal Symbols to share meaning to individual
• They usually do not contain visual clues to their meaning.
