Formatting of text

• Text consists of characters.


• Characters can be made to appear in
different ways called format .
• Format of text includes its font, size, style
like bold, italics etc ..
• Format also includes case of the alphabet.
• Format of characters can be changed with
menu items in ‘Format’ Menu or Key board
Bold facing text:

• Bold face text is commonly used for headers or


headlines or to bring out an important word or phrase
in a paragraph.

• To format text in bold face using the formatting tool,


the following procedure is adopted.
• Select the text you want to bold face.
• Click the bold button on the formatting tool bar or
Press Ctrl +B

Italicizing text:

• An italic format is a script version of a font style that


slants the character.

To convert the character into italic the procedure is:

• Select the text that you want to italicize.


• Click the italic button on the formatting tool bar or
press Ctrl + i.
Example :-
This text is in italics (italics)

Underlining text :

(a) Select the text you want to underline.


(b) Click the underline button on the formatting tool bar

or
press Ctrl + U.

1. All caps and small caps:

• All caps format changes selected lower case


characters to upper case characters. The small caps
format changes upper case characters to lower case
characters and reduce their size. To format text as
small caps or All caps:
• select the text that you want to format
• Press Ctrl + Shift + K for small caps or ctrl + shift + A
for All caps.

If we want to convert the selected text to upper case the
following procedure should be followed
1.Click on ‘format’ menu
2.Click on “Change case”, it will display the following
window
3.Select the “upper case” to convert the text into capitals

2.Expanding and condensing character
spacing:

• Character spacing means how much space appears


between characters. This control changes the spacing
between characters. Choosing the spacing between
characters of the selected text.

• The get character spacing choose the “BY” Text Box and
clicking the up or down arrow buttons. Spacing range
should be in between 0.25 A 14.

3. Changing the case of characters:

The “change case” command automatically changes


selected characters from upper case to lower case or
vice versa. To change the case of characters:

• Select the text that you want to change.


• Press shift + F3 each time to get the following options.
