INTRODUCTION

• Maxima and minima concepts find relevance in the management and understanding of blood
glucose levels in diabetes. The maximum blood glucose level signifies the peak concentration
after meals or due to external factors, emphasizing the need for regulation to prevent
complications. Conversely, the minimum blood glucose level denotes the critical low points,
associated with hypoglycemia, requiring immediate attention to avert adverse effects like
fainting or seizures.
• Monitoring both maximum and minimum blood glucose levels is essential in diabetes care to
maintain stability and prevent complications. Understanding these extremes helps in adjusting
medication, diet, and lifestyle to ensure blood sugar levels stay within a healthy range,
minimizing the risk of long-term complications related to diabetes. The interplay between these
extremes serves as a cornerstone in the management and treatment of diabetes, highlighting the
significance of managing both the peaks and valleys of blood glucose concentrations.
Maxima AND minima statement:-

MAXIMA:-A function f(x) is set to have a maximum value at x=a,if there exist small number “h”
f(a) > both f(a-h) and f(a+h).

MINIMA:- A function f(x) is set to have a minimum value at x=a,if there exist small number “h” f(a)
< both f(a-h) and f(a+h).

• The maximum and minimum value of a function are called its extreme value and the point at
which the function are called the turning points of the function.
Examples of maximum and minimum
 Optimization: Calculus helps find maximum values, such as maximizing profit or minimizing cost
in business applications through the use of derivatives.
 Peak Values: Trigonometric functions reach maximum values, like the maximum height in a
sinusoidal function representing the amplitude of a wave.
 Critical Points: Maximums occur at critical points where the derivative equals zero or where it
doesn't exist, such as at local maximums on a curve.
 Cost Minimization: Calculus aids in determining minimum values, such as minimizing surface
area for packaging materials or minimizing energy consumption in engineering.
 Lowest Points: Quadratic equations represent minimum points on a parabolic graph, like the
minimum point of a downward-facing parabola.
 Critical Points: Minimums also occur at critical points, whether local or absolute, where the
derivative equals zero or doesn't exist.
identification problem:-
Maxima and minima in dibetes.
1.A patient's blood glucose levels (in mg/dL) are monitored over a certain period after insulin injections.
The goal is to determine the optimal insulin dosage that minimizes the fluctuation between the highest
and lowest blood glucose levels recorded.

Reference Data:
Blood glucose level at time t=0: 111 mg/dL
Blood glucose level at t=1 hour: 134 mg/dL
Blood glucose level at t=2 hours: 150 mg/dL
Blood glucose level at t=3 hours: 143 mg/DL
Blood glucose level at t=4 hours: 130 mg/DL

 To find the maximum and minimum for the diabetic individual is monitoring their blood glucose
levels. They blood glucose levels several times throughout the day and to determine optimal
function, maxima and minima for the week. The following data represents data their blood glucose
levels in mg\dL.

Time 6 9 12 15 18

Glucose Level 111 134 150 143 130
