DEPARTMENT OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION

ANDHRA PRADESH
Name of the Staff Member :P. MADHAVI
Designation :Lecturer
Branch :DCCP
Institute :Govt. Polytechnic, NELLORE
Year/Semester :III Semester
Subject :Quantitative Techniques-I
Sub. Code :CCP-303
Topic :Understand the concepts of
classification of data
Duration :50 Mts.
Sub Topic :Table preparation for given data
Teaching Aids :Animations
CCP303.8 1
Objectives :
On completion of this period, you would be
able to:

 Prepare a Table for the given data

CCP303.8 2
INDIVIDUAL SERIES

CCP303.8 3
Table for individual observations:
 Individual observations represent a series
where items are listed simply after observation

 They are arranged into groups

CCP303.8 4
Example1:
Runs Scored by top eight players of a
team are represented in a table as
follows:
Table No.1

Player A B C D E F G H

Runs 60 100 75 0 25 45 50 100

CCP303.8 5
DISCRETE SERIES

CCP303.8 6
Table for Discrete Series:

 It represents items of data in separate and

complete units

 Regular gaps between two values

 Data in ascending or descending order

CCP303.8 7
Example2:
Number of families having a defined number
of children are represented as follows:

Table No.2

Family 1 2 3 4 5 6

No. of 2 4 5 3 0 7
Members

CCP303.8 8
Table for Discrete (Frequency)Series:

 Step 1
List all possible values of variable in an order.
 Step 2
Taking each data value, mark a tally bar (tally mark)
across value in column 2
 Step 3
Count number of Tally bars and put the total of tally bars
in last column

CCP303.8 9
Example3:
The following data shows the previous
teaching experience of lecturers in a college :
0, 2, 3, 10, 4, 6, 3, 5, 5, 5, 3, 7, 3, 2, 8, 0, 9, 2,
10, 5, 2, 1, 0, 8, 4, 2

Prepare a discrete frequency Table.

CONTINUOUS SERIES

CCP303.8 12
Table for Continuous Series:
 Class:

Each interval in which continuous variable get

classified is a class

 Class Limits:

Lowest and Highest values included in the

class

 Class intervals:

Difference between upper and lower limits of a

class is class interval.
CCP303.8 13
Steps:
• Step 1
see the least value and highest value in data
given decide classes taking suitable class
intervals say 10 or 5
• Step 2
Look at each Value provided in the data and put
a tally bar across the value in the column 2
• Step 3
Count the number of Tally bars and put the final
tally in the last column

CCP303.8 14
Example:

The following data shows the ages of 28 employees

in a government agency.

34, 36, 48, 49, 31, 61, 34, 43, 45, 28, 32, 28, 61, 29,
47, 36, 50, 46, 30, 46, 32, 30, 33, 45, 49, 48, 41,
