Introduction
IN VITRO FERTILISATION, ALSO CALLED
AS IVF, IS A COMPLEX SERIES OF
PROCEDURES THAT CAN LEAD TO
PREGNANCY. IT’S A TREATMENT FOR
INFERTILITY, A CONDITION IN WHICH
YOU CAN’T GET PREGNANT AFTER AT
LEAST A YEAR OF TRYING FOR MOST OF
THE COUPLES. IVF ALSO CAN BE USED
TO PREVENT PASSING ON GENETIC
PROBLEMS TO A CHILD.
IVF IS AN OPTION IF A WOMEN IS
SUFFERING FROM :-
FALLOPIAN TUBE BLOCKAGE, PCOS ETC.
WOMEN SUFFERING FROM THESE
PROBLEMS CAN TAKE THE HELP OF IVF
IN ORDER TO CONCEIVE.
COST AND EFFECTIVENSS
Cost of IVF usually ranges from Rs.85000 – Rs 2,50,000 for one
cycle. IVF treatment cost packages vary due to many factors,
including your medical conditions and your IVF treatment.

Women under the ages of 35 have the most success rate, but
between the ages of 35 to 37 also have a 40.5% rate of success.
Women between the ages of 38 and 40 have a lower success rate at
26.4%, and over 40 has the lowest success rate at 8.2% according to
CDC data, and the average success rate is 40 to 43%.

WHAT IS ICSI?
IC S I s tands for intracytoplas mic s perm injection. The proces s
essentially works as the semen is retrieved from the male, the
bes t s perm s elected from it, and then artificially injected into the
e g g for fertilization. It is one of the mos t successful methods of
artificial treatment for problems related to infertility.
The success rate for ICSI can range from 8 0 to 8 5 % .
This is to say that about eight out of ten e g gs will
fertilize normally.

ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION
It is a fertility treatment that involves
the introduction of sperm into a
woman's reproductive system to
facilitate pregnancy. There are different
methods, including intrauterine
insemination and in vitro fertilization. It
is often used when couples struggle
with infertility.

IN VITRO FERTILIZATION

In vitro fertilization (IVF)

is a more complex
procedure that involves
combining an egg with
sperm in a laboratory dish
and then transferring the
resulting embryo into the
uterus. This method is
often used when other
treatments have failed.

RISKS AND CONSIDERATIONS

While artificial insemination is
generally safe, there are some
risks, including multiple
pregnancies and potential
emotional challenges.
It's important for couples to
consider the physical,
emotional, and financial aspects
of the process.

22
SUCCESS RATES
The success of artificial insemination
varies depending on factors such as the
age of the woman, the cause of
infertility, and the chosen method.

Generally, success rates range from 10%

to 20% per cycle of treatment.

23
LEGAL AND ETHICAL
CONSIDERATIONS
Artificial insemination raises legal and
ethical considerations related to
parental rights, donor anonymity,
and the use of donor sperm .
It's important for couples to
understand and address these issues
before proceeding with
treatment.

Conclusion
ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION IS A VALUABLE OPTION FOR
COUPLES FACING INFERTILITY CHALLENGES. WITH
ADVANCEMENTS IN REPRODUCTIVE TECHNOLOGY, IT
OFFERS HOPE FOR ACHIEVING PREGNANCY.
HOWEVER, IT'S ESSENTIAL TO CAREFULLY CONSIDER
THE RISKS, SUCCESS RATES, AND LEGAL AND
ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS BEFORE PURSUING THIS
TREATMENT

GIFT

Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) is a

procedure that involves placing eggs and
sperm in the fallopiaan tubes for
fertilization. It's a modification of in vitro
fertilization (IVF) and is used to help
infertile women become pregnant
STEPS INVOLVED

GIFT) is a three-step procedure

that involves 1.removing the
eggs, 2.combining them with
sperm,
o3.immediately placing them in
the fallopian tubes, where the
egg is fertilized. 38
STEPS ENVOLVED

4.The woman is given follicle-stimulating drugs to increase her

chances of producing multiple eggs. The eggs are collected via

aspiration and mixed with sperm.

5.Using laparoscopy, the combined egg and sperm mixture is

placed in the fallopian tubes.

6.GIFT is an option only if the woman has a healthy uterus and

fallopian tubes
o

39
ADVANTAGES ?
1. Preferred for the most complicated, high risk,
infertile women, incl those with advanced age,
obesity, PCOD, tobacco use, marijuana use, etc.
2. The success rate with GIFT is relatively high.

40
DISADVANTAGES ?

1. pelvic infection, puncture of internal organs, and

side effects from general anesthesia.

2. increase the risk of multiple births

41
WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE AND
COST ?

The success rate of Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT) is

around 25–30%.

The success rate depends on the couple's age and the

quality of the eggs and sperm

The cost of Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT) treatment

in India can range from Rs 10–14 lakh
