BISHOPSLEA SCHOOL
HAIR AND UNIFORM REGULATIONS
Deportment is one of the attributes we take great pride in here at
Bishopslea. Pupils are therefore responsible for their personal
appearance and must follow the uniform regulations accordingly.
Whenever the pupils walk out of the school, they must ALWAYS be in
full sports kit or full school uniform and that includes their hat.
Please bare in mind that blazers are to be worn from Grade 6.
Pupils hair must always be neat and uniforms worn must be clean at all
times, in order to keep and maintain the Bishopslea Brand.
General Hair and grooming
Girls and boys are to always look neat and presentable.
Girls are NOT allowed any braids or any form of extensions in their hair,
neither are they allowed hair colour or tint of any kind.
Cornrows, singles(with their own hair), French plaits, pony tails and pig
tails.
Only Navy blue, beige and royal blue headbands, alice bands,
scrunchies and ribbons are to be worn.
By no means are girls allowed to lay their edges or are the boys
permitted to use gel in their hair. If seen, the girls or boys will be asked
to wash it out.
GIRLS HAIR
CAUCASIAN/INDIAN HAIR
• Girls must have their natural hair colour and are not permitted tints or highlights.
• Long hair that touches the collar must be tied back in either a pony tail at the
back of the head or nape of the neck or two plaits worn to the back. Pony tails
and plaits may not be worn at the top of the head. Clips must be worn to ensure
that the hair is restrained neatly.
• Buns- Hair may only be worn in a Ballet bun which must be at the back of the
head or nape of the neck. It may not be worn on the top of the head.
• French Plaits and Dutch Braids are allowed but they must be neat and tidy at all
times. Clips must be worn to ensure that the hair is restrained neatly.
• If a fringe is worn it should not be lower than the pupils eyebrows.
• If hair is short, it should be neat, clean and away from the face.

AFRICAN HAIR
• Girls to have natural hair colour- Freehand cornrows are allowed but no fancy designs.
• Short hair must be neatly combed/brushed and should be neat. No shades are allowed.
• Any twist outs must be tame and look neat.
• Singles with their hair must be tied neatly into a bun or a French plait.
• Dreadlocks/sister locks must be neatly styled and away from the face.
• No weaves. No gelling down edges. No wigs. No extensions of any kind including
Brazilian wool.

Permissible Hair Accessories
• Girls are to wear navy blue clips, alice bands or lycra headbands.
TYPES OF EARRINGS
• Studs must be silver, gold and clear.
• Gold or silver ring loops. (slippers)
• No pearls!
• No boys are permitted to wear earrings.
• Pupils to stick to options in pictures.
Uniform options – ECD – Grade 6
All girls are to be dressed in their
Bishopslea dress, beige ankle socks
and brown school shoes. The shoes
can be buckled, lace up or straps.

All boys up to Grade 7 to wear grey shorts,


a white shirt, grey knee length socks and
Black lace - up school shoes.
Uniform for Grade 7
• The girls are to have a beige flap instead of a blue one.
UNIFORM – Winter (Girls)
• Girls are allowed to wear navy blue Stockings and boys are to wear
grey longs with their normal shirt and sweater, jersey or blazer.
UNIFORM – Winter (Boys)
Sports Kit
• Tracksuits are to be worn in full or with skort and track top, neatly
folded white ankle socks and laced up sneakers.
• First team players are allowed to wear their sports team kit with a
blazer and these are all to be worn with hats or relevant caps.
• When wearing house t-shirts please ensure to wear it with house cap
or alternatively the school hat.
• Always ensure to have your shirts tucked in and track tops zipped up.
Sports kit options Infants ECD to Grade 2
• Infants wear the Bishopslea white t-shirt and navy blue shorts. Pupils
must wear the full kit with hat or full track suit with shorts and t-shirt
inside and are only permitted to remove the tracksuit bottoms in case
of the weather.

Gaul is green, Knightbruce is yellow, Paget is purple and Beaven is red.


Sports kit – Athletics kit
For afternoon sport, girls are to
wear their skort and top. The boys
are wear their Bishopslea top and
navy blue shorts.

For Athletics and Cross Country,


both boys and girls will be given
an athletics vest which is to be
worn with Navy blue shorts.
(Those competing ONLY).

The preference for sneakers to be worn is white, navy blue or black,


however, if we can attempt to wear more reserved colours, as we know
getting the preferred colours may be a challenge.
Please avoid bright illuminous colours.
No Tomy tackies, Air force ones, Allstars or Kappa sneakers as these are not
for sports and do cause injuries and are very uncomfortable for the girls in
the long run.
